There is no difference between a Monsoon head unit and any other GM/Delco radio of the same era. All you need is the aftermarket head unit of your choice, a mounting kit, a wire harness adapter, an antenna adapter, and about an hour to install.

Question on this topic, I'm about to do the same. Last 3 F-Body's had a big plastic panel that went up around the vents and everything, popped right off (97 camaro 94 firebird 97 camaro) Now 99 TA the plastic piece around it is much smaller and seems pretty well secure, any tips for getting this off? I don't want to break the little f*er

The trim is held in place by by four spring clips - two on each side. Simply wrap a soft cloth around a screwdriver to prevent scratching and pry it off.

You do not have to give up steering wheel controls just because you install an aftermarket head unit. Almost every recent HU that has a wired remote port will work with the steering wheel controls using the appropriate adapter.
