Get the standard GM socket from Autozone/Advance Auto/where ever. Don't have the guys behind the counter look it up as their dumb computer system will say it doesn't fit these cars. Their computer is wrong, the sockets are a direct fit. Just go to the electrical aisle at the store and the sockets should be there.

There is a way to replace the socket without chopping wires. Here's a socket rebuild writeup I did on another site that should be helpful.

Also check for any apparent water damage in the housing. If water drips on the bulb when it is hot, it can crack/shatter the glass and burn the bulb.

Before you do a new socket, check the lens first. The crack, let water in, and that blows the bulbs. Your socket could be perfectly fine.

If you have water in there, the lens will look like a fishbowl and you can press on the lens with your finger to expose the cracks.

Its because Firebirds go faster and the rocks and road debris hit the lenses harder.

I'm going through bulbs at a record rate. Wasn't there someone who had good luck with the ultra bright LED tower bulbs?

change out your housings, that way there are no cracks in the top from the filament bulbs, get new sockets if your old ones are corroded, replace bulbs with LED tower bulbs (i used the 3157 amber drl) problem solved...

The thread is all about lens problems. A new bulb won't fix the lens.

Thanks! That was most helpful. I'm going to look into that. I'm also going to look into supporting the lamp housing a little better as they aren't really firmly attached to anything solid, and I think vibration is also playing a role in the short bulb life span.

I am not sure about that, I've had my LEDs in for over a year, and have had zero issues, what causes the short span is the design, the bulbs are bottom-mounted, and get so hot they melt and crack the top of the housing, letting water in when it rains/washing, ruining the socket, I think changing housings/sockets/bulbs to LEDs you will be fine. The pic in my sig is how they light up after the change, for reference.
