That commercial is really deceiving. The system doesn't recognize your fingerprints - you have to be carrying a remote in your pocket. It works something like the anti-theft tags they put on stuff in stores. You carry a passive remote and the car recognizes when that remote is within range so that it can unlock the doors, etc.

Porsches have the same thing, you carry the key/remote in your pocket, and theres a dummy plastic key in the ignition. You walk up the car unlocks, it recognizes witch key is in your pocket yours or your wifes ect. and sets the seats and mirrors and steering wheel to where you like them. You can program it to start you car when you walk up also and when you walk away it will lock the car if your gone for 2 minutes or more. called Kessy = Keyless Entry, Start and Exit System.

Yeah but now it doesnt sound like that big of a deal. I thought there was something in the door handle that recognized fingerprints. Oh well just have to wait a few more years I guess.

It's nothing special or hightech if you think about it.. Probably just some cheap RFID device in fancy packaging.
As for fingerprint type devices, you woudn't want that on your car. having done lots of research on biometrics, it's not reliable enough for the masses as of yet
