BCM relay sticking?

Default BCM relay sticking?

I have a 99 SS that the courtesy fuse keeps burning out when i use the remote to do anything. It only blows when i use the remote and not the locks or hatch from inside the car. so i checked it with my amp meter and it's pulling 28 amps at the courtesy fuse when i hit the remote and staying on until i disconnect the courtesy fuse terminals. Any ideas out there as to what it could be? I thought maybe a relay sticking in the Body control module.

Since the inside switch and the remote key fob activate exactly the same internal relays in the BCM, I doubt that would be your problem. There could be a problem with the BCM but it's not a sticking relay. Besides, the door locks shouldn't draw 28 amps even if the relay was stuck and you would certainly hear the door lock solenoids receiving that level of constant power if the relay was stuck.

Just curious. Is this a stock remote or an aftermarket system?

That's an excellent question... I hadn't even considered that it might be an aftermarket alarm system.

Hmmmmm. I thought this was going to be a Viper attack...

So, will the fuse also blow when you hit the panic button? (Not the unlock or lock features.)

After being out for military obligations I finally got back to working on it this afternoon and have narrowed it down to a short to ground in the courtesy light circuit. It's aparently somewhere between the BCM and the lights themselves on circuit 149. My book shows s241 where 149 splits to go to each light but I can't figure out where that is on the car.

S241 is in the main instrument panel harness about 1.5 inches from where the radio antenna cable breaks out.
