Default headunits??

Just wondering every ones experience with double din hu's. I've been thinking about them for a while but I'm about ready to pull the trigger on one now. Nav is not important....I have a gps. But radio reception is and of course sound and bluetooth. Not wanting to break the bank either but I don't mind spending for better quality. I actually want 2....one for my truck and one for my car. And back up camera.

Honestly without NAV as a reason for the double din screen, double dins are just a big fat waste of money, for example if you are planning a good audio system (running everything off of aftermarket amps) then you would want 4-volt or better preouts and 3 sets of preouts, the CHEAPEST NAME BRAND (no garbage brands like Dual, Jensen and chinese ebay brands you've never heard of) is like 400-500, you can get a single din with almost every feature of that double din (minus the screen) for under 200.

this is coming from a former Pioneer AVIC D3 owner.

I like them better. I want a back up camera for when I am backing up to trailers in my truck. I want them the same so I don't have to learn 2 different radios. The dd's seem to be easier to navigate their features.

In the double DIN market, the aftermarket leaders are Kenwood and Pioneer. There are other brands out there - even some that have big name recognition like Alpine, Sony and JVC along with lots of junk as Daniel mentioned. But Kenwood and Pioneer seem to be the market leaders. Personally, I prefer Kenwood but if radio reception is especially important to you then you can't beat the SuperTuner (current version is IIID or 3D) in Pioneer head units. They have had the best tuner since the SuperTuner came out many years ago and the IIID version has improved both AM sensitivity and FM selectivity.

Most of their double DIN models are available with selectable display color so with the proper bezel it's easy to make it appear almost like original equipment - unlike any single DIN I've ever seen.

Thanks WhitB....that's the kind of info I was looking for. Radio reception is probably most important to me, I don't buy cd's. Monsoons suck for that but the Bose system in my truck gets much better reception. I just want 2 of the same so I don't have to learn different radios.

I'm not familiar with the newer individual models but I generally avoid anything with a motorized display as they tend to break easily. Any of their models will have similar performance so pick whichever one has the features you want and is in your price range - you won't be disappointed.

Did you pull the trigger on that unit? I've been trying to decide and that was the main one I was comparing. No one stocks one locally that is hooked up.
