Default Accessory outlet stopped working

I had my phone charger plugged into the accessory outlet this morning on the way to work and it was fine. I went out to run an errand and it seemed to not be working. I plugged the charger into the cigarette lighter and it worked. Is there a separate fuse for the accessory outlet or has maybe the outlet gone bad?

Both outlets (cigarette lighter and power port on console) and the OBDC II port use the same fuse - 25A fuse #11 labeled CIG/ACCY.

This seems to imply that I need to replace the accessory outlet. Agree? If so, any instructions on how to do it?

Thanks...

No. I recall that the ports are not the same physical size. Your charger may not be built to fit the deeper accessory port. I'd test it with an electrics tester before changing the port and checking the instructions of your charger, also.

I've been using the charger in the accessory port for a couple of years. It only just stopped working there and works fine in the lighter port.

The positive tab at the back of the socket may be laying down. If it test out good, you may be able to just bend it back with a hook. (I've done that before with some success, as well.)

BTW - New replacement ports are a little bit of a PITA to track down due to part number substitutions. I added a second one a while back and had a hell of a time finding one to match the grey trim.

But be sure to remove the CIG/ACCY fuse before sticking anything metal in the socket to pry up the positive tab. The entire outer housing is grounded so any contact between the center positive tab and the outside edge will cause a dead short.

Good call.

However.... I do believe that growing up, playing Operation, we have the skills necessary to do this without pulling the fuse.

Strangely enough, it seems to be working now. I'm not sure what happened...

Thanks for the replies, though!
