Default double din 6.2" vs 7" screen

Looking at getting a double din head unit and still undecided whether i want a 6.2" or 7" screen. Sometimes i look at 7" screens and think they look a lil too big in camaros but other times i think they look great. Any pics would be greatly appreciated as well as any feedback from people that have either setup.

I've always liked the smaller screen because of having actual physical controls like a volume ****.

me to, that physical volume **** is important when you see a cop and have to drop the volume quickly so they won't harass you about it.

I own both, in different vehicles. 7" was harder to mount up with a custom kit, since they need to be able to swing open when loading disks. This can get interesting in vehicles that didn't have factory double dins.

The 6" models are usually fixed, with an exposed CD slot. As long as you can see the front, you can put a disk in. Pros and cons, I still wouldn't change either until they fail.

Some good points brought up here. Like i said before sometimes i look at the 7" ones and love them and also at some times i think they look to big for some reason granted they would be great for viewing movies but one thing i have been worried about is the fact they are motorized which could cause a slight issue as far as fitment goes. As far as the 6" ones the only disadvantage i can think of is that the display is smaller however it would still be an improvement over my single din that i currently have. Also don't really need the buttons on the side since i have the steering wheel control adapter already so if i want to mute real quick i just gotta press the mute button. Tough decision...

plus, unless things have improved drastically in the last decade you can damn near guarantee that motorized face will fail LONG before the rest of the unit becomes antiquated enough to want to replace it.

What made me choose the 7" over the 6" was the symmetry, I just didn't feel the look of the screen pushed off to the side to fit a ****. Also with just about all new stereos coming with bluetooth or some form of usb/aux input I rarely use the disc player, so motorized face doesn't get much use from me. Although all my stereos are wired to play DVDs I never use the feature, I enabled it for my kiddo but he always wants my cell.

This is also one of the advantages i like about the 7" screen the display isn't moved and like you said i would barely use the cd player much anyway. Did you have a hard time adjusting yours to sit right with the face moving down to insert a cd?

No issues with face movement at all, I'm using a JVC kw-v41bt with the metra double din trim. I didn't do any adjustments at all, just trimmed the dash plastic to fit stereo.

Bear in mind that the only reason you would need a bigger screen is for something like movies. Hopefully nobody here is so incredibly stupid as to watch movies while driving. And for those of us who actually have a life, sitting in a parked car to watch movies on a little head unit seems like an odd thing to do. Even when I was younger, if I spent any significant time in a parked car, it sure wasn't for watching movies.

So the difference between a 7" and 6" screen really isn't important as long as the menus, maps and other information fit. I recommend making your choice based on the other differences such as physical controls, symmetry, motorized face, installation, cost, features, audio performance, etc. rather than the relatively meaningless difference in display size.

I hear you on that...the two hu's im looking at are identical in features and everything only difference is the 7" one is $100 more. Only considering the 7" cuz im having a baby and once they are old enough i think they might want to watch a movie or something plus i like how the display isn't pushed off to the side. Plus the one im looking at actually has physical controls on the bottom so a 6" screen wouldn't have an advantage over it in that regard. Still considering a 6" though because like i said before sometimes the 7" ones look a lil massive to me in a camaro and i probably will hardly ever actually use the dvd feature.

It is illegal in all states to have a video display in the car within view of the driver while the vehicle is in motion - regardless of who's actually watching. Just sayin'... I'd hate to get cited because of a purple dinosaur.

Well after consulting with my gf it is pretty clear she likes the 7" better, i was kinda leaning towards it anyway. On a side note where did you guys mount your bluetooth mics?

upper corner of the A-pillar or on the visor.

I've heard of one guy that put it on his rear view mirror, pretty much anywhere with unobstructed path to your mouth works best.

one guy on here put his on the plastic cover of the steering column just behind the steering wheel.
