Really? So the metra one is textured and the black one matches the ebony somewhat?

I used the SEM Landau Black and held the can way far back from the bezel and did like 10 light coats. They dry very quickly. Came out awesome. Color is really darn close to the console color and the texture is really good. I'll try to get a couple of pics this weekend.

I wouldn't call it a perfect match, but decent enough that it doesn't look out of place.

@Atrus_SS I'm curious on pictures too, can't ever go wrong with an even better match. Especially considering how easy it is to pop off and spray.

So I got the Joying radio and installed it minus the camera. I had already purchased the BAFX obdii and had it working with Torque app and Dash Command on my phone. Went to try it with the radio with both and neither app sees it. Wtf? Any ideas?

Hopefully someone can help me out and if it has already been addressed and i just didnt see it, my apologies. Anyway, I'm set on getting a Joying unit for my 2000 Trans Am. I have the Monsoon system and I want to keep the factory setup other than upgrading speakers. I've read that if i use a factory amp I will need another bypass harness or some type of interface. I've contacted a couple of vendors offering the Joying units trying to figure out just what i need to do the install including harnesses, steering wheel control module, etc. I havent heard back from anyone. Dies anyone here have a break down of what I will need to do a complete install, if you have parts numbers and vendors that would be great too. So I'm going to do steering wheel controls and would like to have full functionality i.e. long press or double tap for secondary functions. I'm sure I will need an fm antenna adapter. Of course I need a wiring harness, not sure if I can get just any standard GM adapter or not, and also if i need a amplifier bypass harness or interface it would be great to pin down. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm running stock monsoon amp with Infinity Reference replacement speakers. All I needed was wiring harness, antenna plug, PAC steering wheel adapter and Metra double DIN bezel. Just wire the new harness to the one that came with the Joying unit and just as simple as plug and play. For steering wheel controls, look back on this thread for how to wire it.

I see PowerAmp! lol Please post pictures of what you did for the back-up camera. I really want to get one, but don't want a license plate frame.

Camera isn't ideal, but it serves it's purpose. I was limited on how I can mount the camera and not look like total crap.

Also, I wish I could make Power Amp my default when I choose source, it's a separate player that I have to load separately, but the widget works well for that.

That's my issue as well.. You have a good idea there and that's the main reason I want one, just to make sure I'm clear when I back up.

Did you consider removing the hatch lock and putting a camera in it's place? I did on the hawk when I made the 366 LED filler panel. It worked out good and I could still open the hatch. I was just always concerned how I could get into the car if the solenoid failed.

I didn't consider it really, but I don't want to loose that ability to get in there if my battery fails....just piece of mind.

One thing I noticed today is that the camera allowed me to literally see around the car that was next to me when backing up. I could actually see the row behind us and around him. Pretty freakn cool!!

Same here, not sure how someone would get in the trunk if that happened and no key lock. I'll have to look at what kinda of space I have to mount the camera since I have my LED board under there too.

Many new vehicles don't have key locks for the hatch/trunk, just the electronic release. My Mustang is like that. If the remote fails, you always have the button under the dash.

But what if the solenoid for the lock fails, the remote nor the button under the dash would work. Is there an alternative way to get the hatch open?

I don't remember if there was one of those manual release tabs in the hatch. I know it is required on all cars with trunks but I don't think the hatch has one. Still, your car is 16 years old... have you ever had the hatch solenoid fail? It is possible but not very likely since it doesn't get a lot of use and even when used it's only for a single pulse.

If you're really worried about it failing, perhaps you could put a small hole in the appropriate place in the interior trim panel that would allow you to manually trip the hatch release with a screwdriver. It would be a little awkward to climb back there from the front of the car but it would be possible to open the hatch in the case of solenoid failure.

I will get some pics tonight of the backup camera I used. It was a simple install, and looks much better than the included one - can't even tell it's there.

Also will get pics of the SEM painted bezel compared to the center console to show how close in texture and color is really is.

To my knowledge there's no release tab to get into the hatch. I haven't ever read about any of them failing but the chance is there and if I can't get back there to unlock it, I'd be in serious bind. The way my luck works is if I do remove or even replace it with new, it will fail and would rather not have it happen.

I was mainly curious if anyone else has ever had to open their hatch from solenoid failing. I've personally never tried to crawl back there and pull down the carpet, but once I heal up I'll have to give it a shot.

I thought about removing the lock and doing the same, but I was leery for the same reason, especially being a vert - I don't even have the hatch to get back there relatively easily.

I thought about trying to rig up some kind of emergency manual release cable that could be run into the back seat area - really shouldn't be too hard to come up with something - but I decided I didn't need to over complicate it.

didnt the c6 have a pull release for the trunk incase of battery fail? or was that for the doors since they were battery operated.

I would think you could put a manual release in pretty easily for the trunk hatch. the question is where to put it to make it user friendly.
