Default Optima Redtop

Any recommendations on the best model? Fitment is not an issue, Its an LS3, from what I,ve researched it needs a minimum of 720 cold cranking amps.

Why not yellow top? They have better resistance to discharging.

Which is good if your running a lot of accessories or a killer stereo, the redtop from what I've read has a stronger starting burst and has a faster recharge rate, my LS3 is in a 67 Nova. My main concern is how many cranking amps I should buy.

Don't go with Redtop, I'm serious by this too. I've had to replace 3 of them within a 5 year period. They're great for cranking but in any situation where they receive constant discharge and the car sits without being used for more than about 2 - 3 days...they die FAST.

Yellowtop is a very strong starter and is much more resilient to discharging which will make it last alot longer.

Redtops don't like alot of draw, they have a strong BURST but once thats done they lose their integrity quick. Yellowtop is a deep cycle battery meaning it can be drained heavily without damaging its lifespan.

Yellowtop. Cranks my car just as hard and effortless as my redtop did.

If you really want to make a difference in the charging system, 0 Gauge Battery cables, Truck Starter (which should be a mandatory upgrade for all LS1 owners), and High Amp Alternator. I've done all 3, its a big difference trust me.

Redtop would be great for like a Utility Vehicle or a Vehicle that makes alot of shorter trips and rarely sees down time.

I have 1 gauge cables, the engine/trans combo is a connect and cruise and Pace Performance recommended the 110 amp alternator, is that considered high amp? What yellotop do you have, mine is trunk mounted, from what I have read the LS3 needs at least 720 cca. Does this sound about right?

I had three relatively new starters end up cracking their housings. Upon researching what causes this, it was suggested that a low charged battery could result in overextending the gear. The battery I was using at those times was my optima red top which I had been trickle charging after every winter allowing me to extend it's use for up to ten years. The battery finally could no longer hold a charge and this is when I started going through starters. Supposedly the cranking power of the optima battery, even when low, is what could have lead to cracking the starter housings. I am now using a regular Delco battery which should last twice as long with trickle charge maintenance on it and we will see how the starter holds up.

I was sold on so much marketing when I was younger but now I realize the value of the advice I was given by mechanics in the past who disagreed with what I was doing with my car back then, keep her stock...

Yellowtop works well for me.

I've also had success with DieHard Platinum and Odyssey.
