Default Power Antenna Bypass Harness

So, using a lot of information Whitebird was awesome enough to supply on the forum, I made an a harness that allows me to plug into the car harness without cutting it so that I can control when the power antenna goes up and does not go up. I was hoping maybe this might help someone else! Why do I want the antenna to go up if I'm using the iPod or CD changer? I had to add two missing wires in the Metra connector. Our monsoon radios use 15 pins, the two missing wires in the factory colors were the brown wire (pin 6 on C1) it tells you when the headlight switch gets turned on, and the dark blue wire for the steering wheel controls (pin 14 on C3). I used two (2) of the Metra 70-1858's because they were missing two wires/pins that are in the factory harness, and one (1) 71-1858-1 reverse wiring harness. On the 71-1858-1 there were 20 wires/pins and I removed the five (5) that are not used in the Trans Ams. I wondered if anybody had any thoughts or questions about this idea?

Default Thank you!

Honestly you were a HUGE help!

Re-pinning as needed was the biggest challenge for the mod.

It's going on 6/26 for an all weekend stay at a shop here to have all the speakers replaced with Kee Audio speakers, that might be too much hands and knees work for me to do.

Do you have an opinion whether to re-use the GM OEM filters for the door tweeters, or somehow use the CDT crossovers included with the new speakers?

I wasn't sure if using the CDT crossovers would be any better than the GM filters, or even totally wrong to use?

Kee Audio recommends re-using the original filters if they're in good condition.

I agree with Ian (Kee Audio) - you should use the factory hi-pass filters as long as they are still working (i.e. you get signal through them). You can use the CDT crossovers only by connecting them as a pass-thru filter and connecting only the tweeter output - but the factory filters are set up to match the Monsoon amp and the intended overall sound shaping.

Default Thanks!

Wow! I'm glad I asked you! Ok. I'm giving the installer two extra door panels I got for $45 in case the original panels need to come out for a while to properly repair their cracks..

So I have two extras of those filters...

I'm not following the need for another harness or missing pins/wires. The Metra harness I have had all the needed wires/pins. I cut the pink antenna power wire and extended it to a switch to keep the antenna down. Then again, I have a Firebird and maybe you have something else.

Do you have the factory monsoon radio, or do you have a base Firebird ? And are you using the OEM GM radio or are you using an aftermarket radio? Apparently the two pins/wires that I added you only really need for the factory radio, none of the aftermarket radios use those two wires. And I made this whole harness because I didn't want to cut the pink wire like you did. My way was a lot more work. There's nothing wrong with your way, I just wanted something that was easily reversible if I didn't end up liking the mod.

I currently have an aftermarket radio with the Monsoon amp. However, I did the mod before changing the radio.

Default Which radio?

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks it's annoying and stupid to have the antenna going up for no good reason.

Yes, the Metra connector is designed for use with the aftermarket radios.

Which radio do you have?

I have a Pioneer AVIC-D3. Its an older model no longer made. I've had it in the car for some years though. I replaced the speakers about a year or two ago with a package/set from Kee Audio.

I looked it up, that's a very nice head unit you have, I like it!

How do you like the sound with that head unit, the stock amp, and the Kee speaker package?

Sounds pretty good. The headunit is good for its time, but there are newer/better headunits out now. This one still uses separate DVDs for Navigation. I use my phone for Navigation though so it doesn't bother me. Otherwise, it still suits my needs so I'm not changing it. My favorite feature is that I can hide the on-screen buttons to show just the background and I have KITT's Voicebox as the background. The time and input still show in the top left corner.

Well I'm fanatical about KITT, my 91 had the dash and nose, just the nose right now.

I wouldn't upgrade the head unit yet, it's fine!

How many miles on the Formula now? I love it!

Still hasn't crossed 100K yet. I think it has 99.8K now.

I bought it new. It was my daily driver for its first several years (even winter). Then I got the Mustang for daily. I traveled a lot for work over the last few years and work from home mostly now so neither gets driven much.
