Default Where to get replacement capacitor for kicker amp

I'm not a huge car audio guy by any means. I bought a setup from Kee Audio, hell probably 10 years ago, and have been running a JL 700/5 amp for everything.

I picked up an old school kicker 750.1 amp that I'm wanting to power just the sub. I figure that will be enough to blow up the carbon fiber CDT 10' sub. 😁

Anyway, I took it apart to blow it out and inspect it, I think it was given to me 5 years ago. I found what I believe is a blown capacitor. I'd like to replace it and see if the amp works. I did a google search for it and didnt find what I was looking for. Honestly I don't know enough about this type of stuff to k ow exactly where to look.

if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

That looks like a Samyoung KMF 100V 1000uF capacitor. Internet search is coming up with all kinds of 1000 uF capacitors but the 100V ones seem not that easy to find. From the image I am not seeing any other numbers to try and cross reference but unless you can find an exact match it would be risky putting in another brand/make on the board. Soldering it in isn't that hard but you will want to ensure ALL the capacitors are discharged before doing anything on the board.

Capacitors are made to exacting standards so brand is not a concern if you can find a 100V 1000uF capacitor - any brand will work so long as the specs and the physical format are the same. Besides, what have you got to lose... I'd bet it's non-functional now anyway. A repair attempt can't make it any worse. Mouser.com has 109 100V 1000uF capacitors listed with a search selector that lets you specify other specs like termination type, length and diameter.

This is excellent advice! Although I would think that they would all be discharged after five years of sitting.

Also, it is very important to install the replacement with the correct polarity. Capacitors can be damaged or even explode if installed backward. The legs will usually be marked but if they aren't, the longer leg is positive.

Thank you very much for taking time to reply. I appreciate it.

I'll report back if I fix it or blow it up.

Digi-Key is another possible source for these capacitors.

Forgive my ignorance, but im guessing those get bent up slightly so the board will slide out?

Both legs seem to be the same length. I'm "guessing" the circle and square on the board specifics polarity?

a NEW capacitor has one leg longer than the other.....you can look at the spec sheet to determine polarity.....damm I fell asleep to much in electronics class

Most boards have some ID numbers on them (they should be on one of the corners and will ID the manufacturer and board), you might be able to look up a reference schematic online. From the position it looks like C30, if you can get the schematic that will confirm the polarity (circle vs square). There is a lot of crud on the board, I'd blow it down with some compressed air before putting it back together, will help with cooling and avoiding build-up to cause a short.

The stripe on the capacitor usually indicates which side is negative.
The square pad on the PCB where the Capacitor goes usually indicates positive.

Make sure you clean the PCB to remove any electrolytic that leaked out of blown capacitors. It is corrosive.

Thank you for everyone's replies. I appreciate you taking the time to reply.

If I have some time later I'll try to figure out the mouser website and find out which cap to get.

After looking at Mousers site and not being able to figure out which one to get, i talked to their support guy who said he wasn't sure if could send them pictures or not.

i emailed digikey with pictures and waiting to hear back from them.
