Default Superwoofer guys come in!

I've never heard any of the superwoofers/large magnet woofers in person and i was wondering how loud these things really are. I'm either going to be running one 12" @1000 watts or 2 12's at 1500watts. I'm not into bass competitions, i just want it really loud when needed, and extremely clean. I just don't know if one 12" is enough becuase once again i have never heard a superwoofer in a car before. BTW the subs i'm choosing between are one adire brahma or two IDMax's.

I have never heard the IDMax but those IDQ's play real nice. If you want loud and are in a budget the Kicker L7 is hard to beat. I have a single 10" L7 on a ported box feeding it only 500w from an Orion amp and that thing has no problem rattling my next door neigbors windows.

a JL Audio would sound even better than a Kicker... a 10W6v2 or a 10W7 would kick major *** on just 500watts

I agree, I prefer the sound quility of JL over Kicke but he did did not mention sound quility or effeciency. He said he wanted something loud. A kicker L7 will be louder than a W7 given proper power.

Just FYI... 12's and Clean sound do not go together, especially in a smaller car (aka not an SUV) like an F-body... I got 2 10's (sig.) that are only powered by a JL 250 mono amp and they kick some serious @$$ no question... IMO you don't want to go bigger than a set of 2 quality 10's.

BULL **** I used to compete in spl contests and work for a shop building boxes. JL can get loud numbers, but if you are looking for clean tite (for like rock music) bass and loudness. Then go with the kicker solobaric. (now the L7) I had 2 12" hitting 149.8 DB's at the dash. The is a link in my sig has a pic of my 10" L7 (square) in my t/a. I can still use t-top holder and sounds great. Most people think I have two 12" it hits 142.1 DB's. The Key to makeing a sub sound like it needs to it the air space. my 10" L7 calls for .66-.88 cubice feet. not that much for a 10 (thats what soslobaric was known for when they first came out) but if in it they are amazxing. 12" calls for .88-1.0 cubic feet. my bax has 32 different sides and is exactly .67 cubic feet. then filled with polimers (pillow **** like cotton from wal mart) makes it sound deeper and cleanner. let me know if you need any help. and what you think of the sub in the car.

If you put a single sub into the hatchwell, and power it with 500-700 watts, that will be enough. Remember, the cabin gain in a hatchback due to the rear of the car acting like a horn loaded enclosure can net somewhere between 8-12dB of gain, so a single 12" is good if you don't need small-animal killing levels of bass. I have a single ED 12" with 500WRMS to it, and it gets loud enough to blur my vision.

Almost more important than what brand of sub, especially when comparing reputable manufacturers, is the enclosure you put it in, and the tuning you do... I disagree with the statement that 12's and clean sound do not go together. That is just not true... 12's are actually a good universal sized speaker that are able to reproduce sound well for a wide range of music. However, the term Clean Sound, is subjective.. Either way, 10's, 12's, JL Audio, Kicker, whatever.. Get your speakers installed in the proper enclosure, get them crossed over properly, and you will be fine.. Also, dont forget to give them some decent power.. Your top of the line sub will still sound like crap if you try to power it with a Sparkomatic amp..

true the sound only sounds as good as the weekest link. cheap amp ==distorded bass. cheap subs== poping and over extintions. cheap wireing to good amp and sub === amp failer(cut out). wrong oms at amp can greatly afet you system as well.

I used to have a CV Stroker 15" in a slot loaded enclosure in my old Supra. The box pretty much took up the entire hatch. I powered it with a PrecisionPower PC1800.2 amp running at 2 ohms mono. Probably about 850 watts or so. It was so ******* loud you couldn't believe it. It lifted the hatch on several occasions. The only down side was that for anything other than rap/techno it was WAY too much. Rock and metal sounded kinda crazy and bass heavy. Oh well. I was younger then...
