Default Escort 8500 Mounting?

Iam going to be getting a passport x50 in a few days, and have read some old threads saying that they are hard to mount due to our windshields being so steep. I know that there is a mount for the V1, but will it work for the passport as well? Just need some advice on where and how you guys have mounted this detector.
thanks.

Hard wire it to the fusebox on the driver's side to a switched power source. Then run the wires up the A frame and mount the detector above the rearview mirror.

I have the 8500 and i mounted it right next to the rear view. I just hardwired it into the rearview mirror power wire, pretty easy no routing involved. As for the windshield being to steep all you have to do is take off the bracket and bend it a little bit.

mounting it up high gets you better results. and dont forget to learn which cities run which bands. saves you a bunch of headaches with false alarms. and i have a question for those who hardwired the radar: will only a certain wire work? does it have to be a escort accessory wire? basically, can i pick up a similar wire from like Radio Shack?

No, escorts have a telephone like end, a standard hardwire kit will not work, unles you get creative with it, and the original cord

I'd get the hardwire kit from Escort. I got mine from a local Car Toys store, but you could probably get it online cheaper.

Found a good write up on it from LS1HOWTO it was for a V1 but it still worked for the Escort. Just wired it the ignition switch wire and ran it under the head liner and down through the A pillar. Got the detector mounted up above the rearview as well.

I really did want a V1, but every thread that I read about the detectors said that its doesnt detect POP which we have in Cali, and that the Escort does.

if POP is what we have over here in NJ then there is no need for a radar detector. its instant on so the detector only goes off if you already got gunned. got 4 tickets over the summer cause of that POP crap. and by the way, i have a passport too. someone correct me if i'm wrong

No your right, its obviously not going to save me from instant on everytime. But I have read of people being warned enough before hand, it also depends on the officer that is using it as well, some of them are really good at using it others may not be. I guess its better to have a slight chance than to have none.

The new V1 does detect POP and also if you do the research the manufacturer of the radar system that uses POP even states in their manual not to issue a citation based on the POP reading as it is inaccurate and only for estimation purposes.
