question on replacing HU ok so i just installed a sony CA-810X HU and my friends who work as installs at local best buys tell me i need to have an amp integrator or amp interface i dont remember what they called it otherwise i would blow my amp. anyway so i installed it and i can barely hear anything and it sounds like crap so i took it out. and it sounds good but they told me that if i crank it up it will blow my amp out... is this true??? and if so please explain more about the amp interface as i already have it but cant seem to get it to work.
Hell. Best Buy doesn't require you to be MECP certified.
You could overload the amp with too much input, but by the time you are getting close you will hear it. It will start getting distorted. So turn it down just a hair.
(Plus the Amp has a protection circuit I think. Don't quote me on that though.)

ok so i really dont need this thing that limits output to the speakers. its a box with dials to allow regulated output to speakers so i can balance between my volume button and the output, because ill get about little less than half way up on volume and it gets pretty damn loud. i just dont want to blow my amp out and be left with no music... =P anyway thanks for the help guys i guess ill just leave it how it is and test the limits..if anybody else has some input that would be greatly appreciated

I am assuming you got the harness adapter? Meaning the adapter to hook your new HU up with the existing system? I did this temporarily with my Alpine unit until I get the car rewired for new speakers and amps and it works fine for me.

Oh... and you won't blow the amp out unless you crank it to the point of the speakers totally distorting at which point your speakers will blow and you'll know something is wrong. Even worse, you can fry the new HU because of the Ohm difference.
Short explanation... the Monsoon system is wired for 2ohms where as most HUs expect 4 Ohms. This causes the amps built into the HU to over work themselves and heat up. Heat + Electronics = Stinky fried silicon.
