Default Alternators

what "aftermarket" higher amp alternators are there for are cars? Will they work better with an ASP pulley or will i still have the same problems?

NO.

You still need to have the Alternator Pulleyed corretly. If not, the Alternator will not spin fast enough to provide the amount of current you would need. A bigger Alternator usually doesn't solve that problem by itself. They are designed to provide more output with the same input (spin the alternators at the same speed and the HO unit produces more current, but is a bigger Stator (heavier) and takes more energy to spin at the same speed)

The best bet is to Raise your Idle, or Get an Overdrive pulley.

Give stinger a call. They may be able to make you one that works off of a lower rpm range.

Your best bet, mainly due to heat reasons, will be to get an over drive alt pulley if you do decide to go with the underdrive crank

my excessive amperage alternator has no problems at all keeping up with anything i throw at it. and i'd bet its faaar cheaper than a stinger unit as well.

Badhoopty, Bought the alt. huh? Nathan was a good guy to work with, he was pretty cool, I think even if they had been more expensive, I probably would of bought from him anyway. I got the same "cold shoulder" treatment from some of the other companies, they didn't even bother returning my emails/calls! Even though it doesn't put out full output at stock idle, I plan on putting a cam in, and raising the idle 100 RPM's. That way i'll never have a problem. The alt. already has a smaller pulley than the stock one does.

We use ohio generator on all of our competition vehicles and I have had one on my daily driver for 120 of it's 125k and not trouble. But underdrive pulleys negate any good of upgrading the alternator. An ohio will put out 45 % of it's rated power at idle and 80% at 1000rpm

Nah I wouldn't think od the alternator would make any difference at all on power. IF it does the amount is so superficial that you will probably never notice it. Bc everything else is still underdriven. There are many mixed feelings on underdrive pulley's. I live in so texas and my car had temperature and charging issues along with poor ac performance during the summer in traffic or just idling for short periods of time. Just my .02

My opinion is: "I live in Florida. It gets hot as hell, and I don't like sweating my ***** off. I absolutely have to have lots of ice-cold AC. I also love my 1.4 Kw system as it quakes out the tunes. If i'm worried about the 5 or 10 horsepower or so of parasitic loss the alternator and/or AC compressor causes, i'll just have to make it up with some bolt-ons or some other mod."

Thats my feelings too. THe underdrives were on the car for about two weeks before they were occupying room next to my tool box. but that is my .02
