I am installing a new HU in my car. What is the easiest and safest way to connect the new HU wires to the factory harness. In the past I would use crimp connectors. What do the stereo install people do?

it generally doesnt make that big of a difference; i always prefer soldering, but crimp caps are a quick fix that hold 99% of the time... just dont use wire nuts

1. Buy one of these: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=265-606

2. Get some red "crimp connectors" or "butt connectors" from radio shack or Home Depot, then connect the harness that came with the radio to the harness mentioned in #1

3. Plug car harmess into your harness, then into your radio.

4.(P.S. your'e also going to need a GM antenna adapter: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=265-580

to convert the mini GM antenna plug to standard size)

Good luck!

i always try to solder/heatshrink everything i can. but with the deck as long as you use QUALITY crimp connectors you should be fine. make sure to use the right size as well, and give the connectors a little tug after crimping them to make sure they are tight.

always best to solder/heatshrink tho. even if only for peice of mind.

If you don't want to wait, you can buy the Metra harness at Best Buy for ~$15.

i always just twist the wires together, fold it parallel to the wire, and wrap it real good with electrical tape. once all the wires are done i tape them all together for added strength. sometimes i will sodlier the wires too if its in a place where it might come undone or the wires arent holding together on a quick tug test. i never trust crimp connectors, had way too many problems with them.
