Escort 8500 X50
Hey I mounted my 8500 x50 so that its somewhat concealed at the top of my windshield, but in order to hid the wires I had to use a phone cable coupler and hook up an additional 8 ft of cord. I was wondering if adding this extra cord will hurt the sensitivity of my detector, because maybe its not getting enough power. i mean ive had it like this for a few monthes now, and it still picks up signals, and everything works ok, but is it just less sensitive?

how high up did you mount it??? if it is above the tint, it will not be as sensitive. in the manual they tell you to mount them clear of any tint on both the front and the back

Sensitivity has nothing to do with the power going to it. I mean if it's a really weak 12v signal or you haven't spliced it very well, then yes the radar detector might have a few problems, but the actual sensitivity doesn't have anything to do with what you are talking about.
I've got my 8500 with the hardwire kit. This made it where I didn't have to use any extra wire at all. The hardwire kit supplies you with enough wire that you won't need to extend anything. The remote display is mounted at the top of my gauges in between the tach and speedo and the detector sits just above the rear view mirror and has detected K and Ka bands at over 2 miles. I haven't noticed a lack in sensitivity with it being in the shaded area of the windshield, but I guess it could play a factor for some.
