Replace the alternator or no no ?

Replace the alternator or no no ? Alright, so last weekend I was running up north to Sac for test & tune on saturday. The same morning I was turned up the boost on my amp to make my 10' pound a little harder. Anyhow, while in the middle of the freeway my car shuts off and the batt gauge just drops to a dead 8. I end up calling a tow truck and the guy advises me that a car does not just "die" out of no where. Says to me that the alternator is the most common cuase of this and tells me I should replace it. First I ask him to jump the batt just to see what's up, in a matter of seconds the car dies yet again. I'm pretty convinced he was right. However, Today I jump the car with my trusty sentra and the car idles for a good 10 minutes. I then test the system again, but lowered the boost to the way it was before I uped it, the batt gauge dropped to a flat 13. This means I need a new alter w/ more amps? or what? Any help guys? Thanks

Not like boost like forced induction... the amp i got came with a small remote that gives a "bassboost" . Sorry for the confusion./
So yestarday, when the car was hot and you were drawing more from the Alt, the car shut off. Today while it's cool, you do the same thing + turn down the remote gain and the car seems fine.
Sounds like a Heat induced condition. Probably the rectifier is on it's way out in the Alt. Look to probably be replacing it in the future and check around for a bigger unit if you plan on keeping a larger stereo.
