tripometer isnt working, how do i check?

my trip is blank. (totaled 99 ta) where do i start to fix this? i'm pretty sure the fuse is for the whole cluster, but everything else works.

Is the trip reseting when you start it or does it not even come on? If he trip is reseting and all the gauges are flipping over you probably have a bad console. There is a service bullitin out for the reseting trip but it doesnt pose a harm so GM wont do anything.

The car was totaled in an accident? I assume it was working before?

it was working when the dealer that i bought my car from bought the car. it went out during the short period that it was in his shop before i bought it

Well since its getting power and everything else works I would have to say its internal. A good place to start would be to find one in a junk yard or if your made of money go to the stealership and get a new one.
