Default Part # for Monsoon Head unit

Anybody have the part number for a Monsoon CD player from a 2000 T/A? Mine bit the dust and would rather just keep the stock system.

You don't want to buy one from the dealer - it will be way too expensive if they even sell it anymore. Look around for a head unit from a 2000-02 T/A in the for sale section here (earlier models will also work but don't have some of the capabilities such as controlling external adapters for satellite radio or ipods). Lots of members sell them when they upgrade to aftermarket systems.

Hey awesome, I'm trying to sell mine, its from a 98. PM or send an email to alexag@vt.edu. E-mail would be better since i check it like 20 times a day. But let me know, I'll hook you up, and it looks brand new. Its actually almost the exact same thing as the newer ones. I can't even tell you the difference to be honest because mine is capable of adding on XM, Ipod, CD Changer and what not. I do a lot of work with car audio so feel free to ask any questions.

Sorry, the 98 CD head unit was not capable of controlling the CD changer. Prior to mid-99, only the cassette head unit could control a changer. This means that the 98 CD head unit also won't work with adapters that plug into the CD changer port to connect an external device such as satellite radio. You could still use an FM modulator but not a direct connection.

Thats funny because my head unit has the buttons for the cd changer and I have the wire leading from the head unit to the cd changer location in my trunk.

Yes, you do - they just won't work. The CD changer harness is in every Monsoon equipped car whether or not a changer or a changer-capable head unit was installed. The AUX button (or "CD/Play" on Firebird) on your head unit is designed for GM's external cassette tape player which wasn't an option in F-bodies but was available in other GM models. Believe me, many on this board have tried to get a changer working with an early model CD head unit and been unable to.

I just checked my parts catalog and the decks do have different stock numbers for 98, 99-00, and 01-02. But all have the same options listed, so it must be something internal.

The changes mostly have to do with external inputs:
98 and early 99 - only the cassette head unit could use the CD changer

late 99 and 00 - both CD and cassette head units could use the CD changer but only one external device could be connected. You can use the PAC or PIE adapter but you have to disconnect the factory changer (actually, you can leave it connected but both devices will play at the same time which sounds awful).

01 and 02 - more than one external device could be connected (with proper adapter). This model would allow you to have a factory changer and also connect another auxiliary source (satellite radio, mp3 player, etc.) with an adapter such as those from PAC or PIE. Pressing the AUX (or CD/Play) button would cycle between the internal CD, the changer, and the external auxiliary device.

I got a brand new deck from my dealer- gotta love that extended warranty. I had the volume **** issue and since it was in for an O2 sensor it was still only one deductable. so a fixed O2 and HU cost me 100$ not too shabby.

You could try gmpartsdirect.com. They have a part # index for gm cars.

I don't recall if stereos were listed or not. YOu may have to call your dealer and provide them with the VIN so they can get the right part #.

Once you have that, there's probably 20-30 different part #'s for the exact same unit, and someplace there's a cross reference for them.

Strange... the cassette head unit is listed (9393372) but the CD head unit is shown as "NS" (non-stocking) and available only as a remanufactured unit from AC-Delco repair centers. (this is from the original GM parts manual not gmpartsdirect.com)

I have the CD and just looked for you but they are all listed with the same discription, different part numbers are assigned to each. Part numbers depend on whether it is convertible or coupe as well. But in my copy they all are listed as having AM, FM, Clock, CD.
