Default left headlight wont go down

For some odd reason all of a sudden my left headlight will not go down tonight. I looked at the light the best I could and from what I could see it seem like the wiring was hanging below the light. Everything seemed to be plugged in, but of course it was dark out and tough for me to see. My right light is fine and everything is intact. There isnt any wiring hanging from the right light so Im assuming this is part of my problem with the left light. Again, I cant see anything because it's to dark. Is it possible my motor is going? The car has 49,200 miles on it. I would appreciate any help you guys can give me.

Ok, Im pretty sure the motor has gone down. Pontiac has one for 155. Has anyone ever changed one of these motors? Are they pretty easy to do? Any advice on the installation would help.

Is there a buzz from power getting to the motor? If so, the problem may lay in the gear, might want to check into that as well. Hope that helps a bit.

This may sound ignorant, but where is the gear, I see the main arm that connects to the headlight lowering it. Is it within the motor unit? I was able to lower the light using the manual ****.

I believe that is on the inside of the housing and all that has to be done is to flip it over so that the new teeth are being motored down. There is another member 'Whitebird' that may be able to give more assistance than I can.

Yes, the problem is more likely to be the plastic headlight gears being stripped than the motor being burned out. You can get lots of information on the free fix and the more permanent metal replacement gears here.

One way to find out if its a bad motor or a stripped gear is to get a freind to turn the lights on while you listen for the motor. More then likely its the gear. Get some brass gears and replace them, its not too terriable difficult

Kragen has motors for pretty cheap. $90 or so with a $25 core charge (so $65 after rebate).

The plug that connects the motor to the car could have gotten water in it and corroded. That's what happened with mine and I had to rewire the plug. Too bad I found this out after buying a new motor. Just another thing to watch out for.

Same thing happened to my black car. However, the motor was shot too. Definitely something to look as before spending the $150 on the a motor.
