Unhappy sub & amp problem, im stumped please help

sub & amp problem, im stumped please help hello, please try to help i am really stumped.

i have 2 identical mono amps. and 2 identical subs . one amp per sub. the only thing the 2 subs have in common is the rca cable which is split to the 2.

now if i run one amp the sub is fine, if i run the other amp the sub is fine, when i run both amps and subs, i lose some power and get alot of distortion

the subs have seperate enclosures.

i tryed the pass through on one amp to run rca' and got that prblem, so i figured i would split the rca and not use the pass through and i get the same problem.

if i have the rca's pluged in for both amp it sounds like crap, but as soon as i remove an rca from one the other sub sounds great. if i remove a speaker wire the other souinds great. for some reason they do not want to work together.

i had the same set-up in my last truck and it worked fine. i don't understand.

please please please help. thank you.

What amps? What HU?

Sounds like a summing issue with the RCA's. Could be a sign that the outputs don't like to be split much. Some decks Low level outputs have Low resistance to keep Noise rejection Hight, but don't like to be split at all.

I've ran into this prob before, but I can't remember the specific fix. (also pretty dopped up right now. Surgery)

The speaker wire thing has me perplexed just abit.

the amps are audiobahn 18001d and the subs are digital designs 9515's. the head unit is a pioneer deh-p9300

i had the same equipment in my jeep and it was excellent.

the speaker wire thing, has me stumped too,

as long as the 2 subs are not playing together they sound insane. so whether i remove the speaker wire or remove the rca from one of the amps so that the sub is not on it doesn't make a difference. they just don't want to play together. i t is really irratating me.

sorry to hear about the surgery hope u feel better

I was thinking Line-out convertor, but your not the type to use those and I guessed right.

Can the subs be taken out of their enclosure? Sounds really similar to the "Common Chamber Reversed Polarity" problem. Maybe there is enough of a leak to cause them to work against each other.

What kind of voltage do you have comming out of your head unit? Im thinking theres not enough volts (or too low of resistance) which would cause the distortion

Richiec77:
the subs are in totally seperate boxes. they are dual 2 ohm subs wired in parallel and then staright to the amp. i am gonna how ever check tommorrow about the out of phase thing. i don't think i am dumb enough to mess that up but maybe i did. thanks for bringing that up i didn't even think of it.

2MuchRiceMakesMeSick:
the radio i believe has 4 volt preouts, but i had the same set-up before and there was no problem.

Ok.
I guess the best thing to do is check everything that you changed from the Truck to now. If it's all OK, Then Something has broken.

I know you are not stupid on this subject so it's probably one of those simple, stupid probs, or something way deeper.

Sounds too much like they're wired outta phase, but I see you're checking that - hope you find it!

If they are 180 degrees out of phaze they will get alot quieter. 180 degrees is had to describe. With both of them hooked up, reverse the polarity (+,-) and see if that fixes it. If it does not, what kind of voltage do you actually have comming off the line out?

My vote is for out of phase as well. It doesn't matter if they are in seperate boxes, opposing identical sound waves will cancel each other out.

another vote for out of phase...

i have seen this happen way to oftem if one wire is off inside you are screwed...just hook the system up like everything is normal and then reverse the +,- on one of the boxes...although i dont think that the out of phase will really affect it too much with two amps...

Worth a shot.

I can say for sure he knows what out of phase is and sounds like. It still might be, but He was stumped. He said he was going to double check everything in the morning.

It could be a stupid, simple fix like the reversed polarity.

Duh. Simple/Stupid.

You can now bang your head for making a newby mistake.

But don't worry. I've done the "Check eveything else but that" thing before. Too much knowledge can blind us.
