man, that was kinda hard to read.

i have the 9855 and i'm very pleased. with the sirius tuner and the KCA-420i ipod interface, you'll never leave the car. just go to another store and get the HU. they have them everywhere. i recommend crutchfield.

Mongoose,

Have you had any issues with this head unit locking up or acting funny on you at all? I'm considering getting one, but my stereo guy is hesitant to sell them right now due to a bunch of them being sent back to Alpine. I'm just trying to figure out if it's a major deal or not.

Thanks,
98PaceCar

actually there are a few issues. i thought i just had a lemon but i guess it's all of them. the problem is with the glide bar. the glide bar is one big button. the function button is connected to it and sometimes when pressing the fuction part of the glide bar it'll respond as if you pushed another part of the glide bar. it's kinda hard to explain if you haven't used one. it only happens sometimes (it actually hasn't happened in a while). it doesn't happen enough for me to want to return it but it's another thing to consider if you're wanting to buy this HU.

what sucks is i got mine from ebay so i don't have a warranty (memo for all you ebayers that get electronics from ebay).

but like i said, i'm pleased with the unit regardless. but i would definately get it from a place that has a warranty. just in case you're not as forgiving as i am.

I would buy it form another store, but i dont want to pay 500 dollers for it. I'm getting mine form jackie cooper for about 350, so I guess I can wait till thay get one. Sorry about the spelling and stuff im not very caring about how I write. theres a period for you.

Thanks for the info. I just found out that my local shop has some in stock and kept one back for me. I'll give it a shot and see how it works. It's supposed to be one of the nicest Alpine's out right now, short of the AV head units.

Make sure any you buy were not made in Feb. Those are all being recalled because of numerous problems.

Shouldn't be an issue as my sales guy is really good, but thanks for the info. I was wondering which units the recall affected.

why do you want this HU over the clarion? that clarion with ipod compatibility looks BAD ***. it was my first choice but it cost 3x as much as the 9855. if i had that kind of loot, i'd be all over that clarion HU.

and i've never seen grammar so bad it had to be edited by a mod
