Default Grounding Issue

I just hooked up my Alpine 9855 and I can hear the alternator through the unit.. There are NO AMPS hooked up.. All that is connected as far as ground is the wiring harness. But I had a Monsoon system, so maybe before I took it out it was grounding through that machine somewhere else in the car?? Becuase I just bypassed the Monsoon Amp -- maybe the ground is unhooked as well?? Anyways, I was curious if anyone has had this issue or if I'm the only one?? If you had the issue, what should be done??

THIS IS SO FCKIN ANNOYING

BR,

Are you running a high perf ignition system? I've read that these things can cause noise in a stereo as well.

Something else to try is to run the power (+12 constant, and +12V switched, GND, etc) off of another power source like another battery. Start the car up and see if you're still getting noise. If not, then the noise is being induced through the power/GND wires. If you're still getting noise, then it's being induced into the radio itself. In which case, I would try a different radio.

You could also try pulling the HU out while the car is running to see if the noise changes at all.

Did you have noise in the original system?

When I installed my aftermarket HU into the 97 z28, I used one of those adapter harnesses, used the factory +12V constant, +12switched, GND, and dimmer leads (amp'd system). I had no noise with the oem, nor do I have noise with the new stuff..

No. No performance ignition system. What I honestly think it is -- is that I had a Monsoon System, and i ripped out the Amp and just tied the correct wires up, I think this is the problem. Right now my car is DOA, but when it gets fixed I will run all new wire with two new amps and see if I still hear the issue. I think that even though I used the guide to tell me which positive and negative wire go to which speaker, that somewhere along the line they are the source of the noise.. Will keep you updated

just ground it to a nearby metal spot, theres no need to run a new wire all the way to the battery, just be sure to sand off the area down to the bare metal.

u know there are more than 1 way to get alternator whine, whether its ground loop noise, or a dirty power source. I know for a fact that new power and ground leads are needed to kill it straight from the source at times. I know because Ive regrounded my old alpine and checked the ground with a volt meter to see how good of a ground it was and still got the "supercharger noise"

Still D.O.A. When I hooked up the Alpine, I ran a wire for grins to the battery terminal for the best ground you can possible get. Still same issue, and then I unhooked the antenna, still same issue. I got pissed and cut the grounded wire while it was on, big difference. When I did that you couldn't even hear the sound out of the speaker, all you heard was whine. When I followed the directions on the wiring, some wires didn't seem to exist, but I hooked them up by listening.. I honestly think this is the issue, becuase I didn't do it by the book -- anyways... whenever the tranny guy gets to finishing my tranny (been a month now) i will take a look at the audio...
