Not a good dirct replacement. I talked to Ben today at Elemental andhe said you'd be better off to go with one of there other speakers. I believe he called ir either a 650 or 6500 (one or the other). But the 700 won't work as a direct replacement. If you are looking to buy a speaker directly from them you should call and talk to Ben first. Very good to deal with and knowledgeable about his eequipment. This didn't work out for me but I wouldn't hesitate if I needed any more speaker help to call Ben.

The only thing I'm not sure on is the Mounting depth. It is a 3.6" deep speaker. That is cutting it really close. I'm really tempted to get a set to see what they are like. I'm actually dying to see if the Pioneer will work in Sub mode.
You will either have to use a mounting ring, or cut the metal behind the magnet to make it fit. I had to do this with my Audiobahns to make them fit.

That EU-700 sub with a mounting ring looks like it might hit the plastic cover over the panel when played.

Yes. They are the 6.5" AMD60Q model. I sold the ones I had, due to me running something different.

They sounded good. I sound deadend around the hole and in it also to help eliminate vibration noise. i had to play with the fader some as to tone them down a bit.
They were not like a set of 10" subs or anything. They were a decent upgrade.
I have now moved on to a fiberglass molded 8" sub box for the cubby hole in the back, ported of course.

clarity loud. You have to remember the were on the Monsoon amp. If your looking for some thump on the low end, I would definately get a subthump enclosure.

What exactly was the rattle you were having? Their EU-650 is not really a good option because it's a midrange which wont give low frequency response and it's 4-ohms. If the subs actually fit I'm curious as to why you were having problems.

I can't really tell you why they rattle. If you need an explanation on that you should talk to Ben at bmilne@edesignaudio.com . When I installed them in my car they vibrated constantly. It sounded like something inside the speaker was being hit by something. I called and talked to Ben to try and figure out what the problem was. Thats when he told me that they won't work as a direct replacement in our cars. He also said he knew a fair amount about the factory systems in these cars and that the EU700 simply would not do what the factory head unit and amp wanted it to do.

I've sent an e-mail to Ben to see if he can clarify a few things.
I'm also tracking down some other speakers that might work.
From the sounds of it they may be more towards the $200 mark for a pair,
but the increased output and fact that they were geared towards this
application may help.

After a couple e-mails with Ben he said the problem is the crossover point on the Monsoon must be too high as the Eu-700 needs to be low-passed at a max of 1KHz. He said the Eu-650 and Eu-600 are more of a midrange speaker and should work in this application better.
Now I just need to find out what the low pass x-over is on the sub channels of the Monsoon amp?

Took the EU's out and put the factory ones back in. Now I have a nice set of EU's just sitting on my counter top.

Thanks for clearing that up. Ben explained it to me but I know very little about stereo setups so me remembering and trying to repeat what he said would have just confused the issue.

See...now I'm confused again. I know it's not the best way to test but I got a test tone CD out and tried to get an approximation of the low pass crossover to the sail panel sub and figured it to be higher than 250hz, but less than or equal to 300hz.
Not the most accurate way to test, but these Elemental 700's should work in this application given this crossover point right?

If you really wanted to use the 700's, you could always add a passive crossover. A 1st or 2nd order low-pass filter with about a 200Hz cut-off frequency should eliminate the rattle.

I myself am planning on using Image Dynamics CX62 midbasses in place of the stock subs. They are 2 ohm like stock, and I hear they sound great. Although I have not heard them myself. True they are not actually subs, but I really don't have the need to rattle the neighbors' windows. I'll post the results of the swap after I install.

The CX62 was another speaker on my list...but the pricetag is quite a bit higher than the others that have been mentionend.
Also, you may want to call ID and ask them about a 6.5" sub for this application as I've been told they custom made one for an H3 in a similar application and were around $200 also.
