i have a beltronics and i'm pretty happy with it. i've gotten over driving at excessive speed after 2 tickets. its just nice to have just incase causethe way i see it is if a minivan drives by a cop going 30 in a 25 he'll probably let it go but if he sees a trans am going 30 in a 25 he'll be sure to pull you over.

V1 hands down I got mine in 2000 and paid a small update fee last year and basically got a new detector with a lot of periferial(spelling) add ons for less than 125 and I run 90 plus from the ATL to B'ham 2 a month to see my son and this thing has saved me countless times,to each his own.

I've had great results from the Escort 8500 x50. I've also ran the V1. I've found the V1 is a lot more prone to false alarm, and on the highway's, I've noticed I had to get right up on the cop before the V1 would detect them. The 8500 was never that bad.
About the arrow's of the V1. Who cares? When it beeps, do you not slow down? The 8500 is cheaper, and has a much better display, windshield mount, and footprint. The V1's bulky, and even Jesus would say the V1's design is old. The V1 doesn't have auto-mute like the 8500, which after using the V1 for a few weeks I've found automute is a very nice feature of the 8500. Not only does the V1 not have automute, You cannot dim the display. Which to those that don't have a radar detector, thanks for following me because you can see the V1's bright red display through my 5% tint.

Had I owned the Escort, I would have gotten pulled over.

when i do finally break down and buy one, it will definitely be the V1....mainly for the fact that by using the arrows & bogey counter in collusion with one another, you can easily figure out exactly where the signals are coming from, which helps people who drive the same route frequently to learn the cops' hiding spots, even if they can't see them, and also helps to alert you if there are more signals than usual in their normal hiding spots, as well as if they are trying to use the usual "false alarm" locations (i.e., electric door openers at supermarkets, etc.) to catch you off-guard.

I am part of an amateur test team that formed to test detectors and jammers. We did a pretty extensive test back in late August. If anyone is looking for honest and unbiased performance testing of some of these units, that is not controlled or managed by anyone in the detector or jammer industry, check out our website:

Actually the direction of the arrow determines if I slow down or not...
Ive used both of these and can say both are very good radars. I now have a V1, like it better and I dont plan on switching.
