Why bother with CDs or even DVDs. A 1Gb memory stick with MP3s on it would be plenty music for me. Do head units like this exist yet? Delete the CD mechanism and there would be plenty of room for a USB port and related circuitry.

I havent seen one. Just get a head unit that reads mp3's off of cds. You can burn & fit around 200 songs to a cd, thats what I do.

Wal-Mart has a USB adapter that plugs in your cig lighter. You can plug a thumb drive in or if you have a USB adapter for your mem stick that should work. It is only bout $30. It is FM modulated. I had a FM modulated CD changer a while back and it werkd fine but I have not tried the USB one at Wal-Mart yet.

Default Sony Head Unit With Magicgate Memory Stick

Hello, I got a sony cd player last year (thing is like a computer) and put it in my project car. So I haven't got to play with it too much. I believe the model number starts with MDEC. I bought this $1200 radio off ebay for $300.

Wal Mart was selling car stereos that took memory stick
(USB flash drive, not the bare Sony memory stick type)
plugged into the face, on an aisle stand a couple of
weeks back. I didn't buy one but you might check it
out. Doubt they're any kind of high quality or Monsoon
compatible.

there is a JVC out now that accepts USB right on the front, would be really useful with a 4-8 Gig usb HD, as opposed to a 256k-1 GIg SD hd.

I love eclipse, but their memory stick unit is worthless.

the memory stick is used for EQ, as part of the ESN, or part of the data map for navigation on the cd7000. As far as i know, im pretty sure that u cannot use the port for mp3's, and if u can, it wont accept anything bigger than 256k

well, they have their own format of music you can use...some units will record from radio onto the memory sticks... i do agree though it is usless to most... and having EQ stuff you have to download into the head and not set directly is rather lame as well... i hope they change their ways a bit soon...

There are a bunch of them ranging from $80.00 to $250.00. Or you can get an FM transmitter that send the signal to whatever headunit you have now for about $25.00. It just plugs into your cigerette lighter or aux power. It has a usb input on it and the controls ie: play, stop, pause, are on top of it as well as channel. It's small about the size of a car charger for a cell phone. They sell them online...ebay, and I've seen them at Walmart of all places also.

Anything that uses FM gets cut off at 15 kHz, that's all the FM standard allows for. The clarity of cymbals, etc, comes from the uppermost frequencies.
