Daytime running lights
I have a 95 t/a i converted (hense my name) to an 02.. Everything in and out is 02. i lub the way these cars look with the amber lights on. but i hate when i forget about them and leave my battery drained..............
Own3d.....So what would be the easiest way to hook them up so they turn on and off with the car?
Figured you guys know your wires...
help a noob out...
PS i'm sure to be lurking around here more often. you guys have some freakin kewl stuff in the trunk.
Here's one example:http://www.autotoys.com/x/catalog/Re...ghts_p_29.html
If you have some electrical knowledge, you can do it yourself cheaper with a few parts from RadioShack (wire, resistors, relays, etc.). It shouldn't be too difficult.

Here's a quick schematic I drew up. It could be wrong, so you may want to wait for a second opinion if you decide to go this route.

I'm not sure which poles would be which on the relay, but it's probably clearly labeled. The light socket has three different color wires coming out of it, but I'm not sure which is which. I think they are blue, brown, and black (I just swapped one out the other day, but can't remember for sure). Black we would assume is ground. If you can't find a diagram showing what the other two are, just tap a +12V lead into each one and see how bright it lights up.
You want the DRLs on when the ignition is on but the headlights are off (they switch to parking lights when the headlights are on) and you need them to still flash when you use the turn signals.
The factory DRL module is solid state but I think you can do this with just a couple of relays on each side. I'm going to have to sit down with some paper and work out the connections. If you really want to do this, let me know and I'll see what I can come up with.

Circuit #1 will light the Turn light on. The turn signal pulse will actually turn it off. (Resistance of the Relay would have to match the bulb... but how?)
Circuit #2 adds a relay to disconnect the ignition signal when the parking light is on and make the turn signal pulse work normal.
Think it would work?

The only problem with mine is the resistance value for the coil in the relay. The turn signal system may not like it if it doesn't match the bulb. and I suck at resistance calcs.
The good news is that it only costs a couple relays to try it. And relays can be used for other things if it doesn't work.
You can overcome the resistance problem by just replacing the stock thermal turn signal flasher with an electronic one (about $7). This will maintain a constant flashing rate regardless of the extra resistance of the relay coil.
One oddity about circuit #2 is that the front signals will flash opposite the rear (i.e. the front lights will go off when the rears go on and vice versa). Not a problem - just
an interesting side effect.
