Default What the @#$^ was GM thinking?

When they designed the damn door panels to where you cant change out speakers without removing the ENTIRE ******* DOOR PANEL! I finally got my SPS-170as thinking this was going to be only moderately time consuming. Big damn surprise.

This is quite a useless post but I just need a place to vent before i go on a mudering spree for ignorant design. How hard are these panels to remove and how many tiny pieces of damn plastic parts do i have to worry about flying out upon removal?

The are very easy to remove.

Check out this window motor replacement thread from the FAQ to see how to remove the panels:

One thing though, once you take em' off youll realize how easy it is. Just take your time and do everything slowly.. don't force anything.

Every single car i've ever done I had to remove door panels, rear panels for rear speakers, and door sills to run wire properly. It may seem like more work up front, but in reality, taking everything apart saves time because it lets you do everything right.

Ranger has it right. The door panel was a pain to take off the first time I tried (couldn't find the screw hidden under the armrest at first). But once you know how, it comes off in 5 or 10 minutes.

The majority of vehicles require the entire door panel to be removed for speaker replacement.

Maybe they didn't want you to remove them.

Yup. And that GM Door panel is one of the easiest to remove. You should see some other cars and how the panel has to come off. You'd praise this Panel for how easy it comes off.

I agree. I've had occassionly needed to remove the door panels of a few of my previous automobiles. And my SS is by far the easiest to disassemble and reassemble.
