Default Recommend a remote start

No alarm needed, just a remote start system for a a4 lsx powered vehicle. It's getting cold out there.

lets hear it.

edit: also, how do they work, after it's started? How do you turn the vehicle off? No key needed anymore I guess?

I used to have a bulldog brand remote start on the old ride. You still need the key to turn the lock cylinder to "on". you can turn the vehicle off like normal, just turn the key off. or you can remote start the car on, and remote turn it off if the key is not in. its got built in safety features like if the key isnt in and you push the brake pedal or open the hood, itll shut off.

good systems include a module to bypass the passkey so you can remote start it. however the bypass only works for the remote start, passkey still works for everything else.

Once the car is started with the remote it will continue to run for whatever duration it is set to run unless the brake is pressed or the car is reved over a certian rpm. It will resume into normal mode(where you can drive it) once you stick the key into the ignition and turn it to the run position. If you start your car with your remote and decide you want to turn off your car, you can press the run position again to turn off the motor. If the key is in the ignition you can just simply turn the key back to the off position and it will stop the engine like normal.

You will need the key still to drive the car.

Note that this is not how ALL of them work but most of them work very similar.

Are these hard to install? Will I probably be able to do it myself?

I dont recommend them for beginners although its not too difficult. I would also ONLY install it on an A4/automatic tranny.

they do make remote starts specifically for manual cars. The car knows when it is put in neutral and the e brake is set. If these two things are not done when getting out of the car the alarm will not let you start the car with the remote.
There are several alarms that have this capability and I know clifford is just one of them. If you would like to have remote start and not worry about your car running off I would check into these specific types instead of hoping you always leave the car in neutral.
