I was wondering if there is any way to hook my ipod up to my cd player head unit. I have the fm transmitter but the sound quality sucks. Is it possible to buy rca jacks and connect it to the back pre outs like where an amp would hook up.
Do they sell head units with mp3 player jacks on face plate these days? Just wondering, my headunit was made before these came out. Thanks for your help!

This is what I bought for my Kenwood HU. It's about 5 yrs old which is what I told the representative at crutchfield. He said that this input adapter would work. I haven't tried it yet but I will in the next couple of days. Now I don't know how old your HU is but you might want to give crutchfield a call.

95fbird,
What headunit are you trying to connect to?
There are iPod specific adapters available for the stock headunit and some aftermarket headunits that would allow controlling some iPod features directly from the headunit (or steering wheel controls if they are set up)
There are also simple RCA AUX-IN adapters available for the stock headunit and many aftermarket headunits that simply allow the addition of an AUX device. Here is how I added XM to my stock headunit with an RCA AUX-IN input adapter:

You can use a RCA patch cable to extend it to any length you want. If you went with that adapter, you'd need a RCA-to-headphone adapter cable anyway. Just get one long enough for what you want.
