What Head Unit???
What Head Unit??? Lookin to replace the head unit first, then go on to a couple component systems, then maybe subs......right now lokin for suggestions on a head unit
Hard to suggest a head unit to someone else. Depends on what you like and what features you think you will use. I just bought an Eclipse 8445. Last years model. Can be found for a pretty good price since the new ones are out. In my opinion no one makes a better sounding hu than Eclipse. I would also recommend the premier series Pioneer hu's, and a couple of the high end Clarion's. Hope this helps.
The best suggestion I can give is to consider your price range, and be sure to list out what features you are looking for. I think you'll find that if you do this, there will only be 2 or 3 head units to choose from.
For example last time I was looking for a head unit, I only wanted to drop about $150. I needed 4volt+ 6x RCA outputs (f/r/sub), MP3 capability, built-in HP/LP crossovers, the ability to disable the on-board amp, and a remote so I could use the PAX with my steering wheel controls. Once I listed all that out there was actually only 1 kenwood head unit with that feature set at my price.
You really can't go too wrong with any of the big names unless you are talking competetition level hardware. So just find one you like the look and feel of, and don't forget to pay attention to the features you want. It's easy to forget something if you get excited by a good deal.

One last thing, Crutchfield is actually pretty competetive with low priced head units. They toss in $40 worth of the mounting hardware you need anyways.
Once you get over 200 or so there are cheaper places to go.

i have an eclipse 8445 im selling, new in box... decided to go navigation..pm if interested Eclipse are the best head units in my eyes....without going to 4-5grand units....for the price of them now days and quality/functions they have you cant go wrong...

I agree with the posts already here. You really need to determine what features you want THEN look at what brands have them. For example, I have a convertilble with a toneau cover that does not let me raise the top if it is on. Therefore my main goal was to have something that would be hidden out of site when the car was off. I don't like detachable face plates because I could forget it somewhere or loose it if I did not have deep enough pockets in the summertime (about the only time we see sun in Seattle). So I went for the Alpine 7998 mainly because it has a 1.5 din face that folds inside when it is powered off. It also plays MP3s which was a major plus for me. Now that I have hooked my iPod to it though I am thinking of replacing the unit for one that has these features plus the ability to totally control the ipod without limiting the number of songs I can listen to (Alpine's greatest downfall regarding their ipod interface unit).
