Default Image Dynamics or Pioneer?

I have a 2001 Camaro with monsoon

For the sail panel speakers, which would you recommend, Pioneer Premier TS-M7PRS or the Image Dynamics?

Pioneer: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=14547

Image Dynamics: http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/tech...midrange&id=cx

For the image dynamics do I want the 2ohm or the 4ohm?

I have the Pioneers. I have not heard the Image Dynamics CX62's (you'd want the 2-ohm). I chose the Pioneers over the ID's because: 1. I couldn't find them in stock. 2. I prefer the wider freq response (especially on the low end) and shallower mounting depth of the Pioneers. There is approximately 3.5" of depth back there. The ID's might be a tight fit at 3.125". The mounting depth of the Pioneers (I had to ask Pioneer to find out) is 2.5625".

Note: If you're worried about the 4 ohm Pioneers being not loud enough, during my install I tested my system with 1 stock and 1 Pioneer. For this test I had the hatch speakers disconnected and fader control all the way to the rear so that the only speakers heard were the sail panels. I could not detect a difference in volume adjusting the balance between full right and full left. I can tell you the the Pioneers sounded cleaner and less distorted.

BTW: There was nothing wrong with my stock sail speakers, I just wanted to upgrade, since I had already replaced all the other speakers in the car.

They always do... But I must have misread the thread earlier because I didn't see the sail panel comment. I wouldn't waste money on those, just spend the money on a set of good 6.5 components for the front and 6.5 coax's for the rear. If you already have both of those with a decent head unit, buy a nice 4 channel amp and a a crossover.

I spoke with a tech guy from ID today about the CX62s. He said that he CX62 would be a tight fit and that he is sure that the stock Monsoon amp COULD NOT handle the speaker and would melt down.

How true is this? Has anyone run the CX62s for at least a year? Also, do the IDs require any custom work or do they pretty much just drop in?

I would prefer the IDs over the Pioneers because of the impedance. Although I do like the freq of the Pioneer better. I don't blast the music either. I just want a decent and clear sound.

Mounting depth is plenty of room - you can fit 3.25" and less easily (I put 6.5" subs there that go 3.5" back and they just needed a little more space with a spacer)

Man, this is an old thread. lol

First, the tech guy must be assuming the stock speakers are 4 ohm. He is right that if you put the CX62's in system with an amplifier that is not rated for a 2 ohm load, you could burn up the output transistors. But since the stock speakers are rated at 2 ohm also, this seems unlikely.

In my opinion, the Pioneers are a better speaker, period. You needn't worry that they are 4 ohms. If the $185 price tag is more than you want to spend, I'd suggest looking at the Audiobahn AMD60Q's. Note: These are also 3.5" mounting depth. So you may have to shim them as FredMR did for his EU-700's.

Actually the price is about the same. IDs (2 ohm) are $189 and the Pioneers are $185. I just wanted to make sure that the speakers weren't going to chew up the amp within 5 minutes of installing them. I told him that the Monsoon was 2 ohm too but he was sure that the amp wouldn't handle the speakers. I was just curious if anyone had the CX62s for an extended period of time with the stock amp. Peace of mind kind of thing.

I know this thread is old but it is still relevant to the questions that I have. Thanks for your replies by the way.
