Damage the tach wire?

When I install my raptor shift light do I have to gouge the tach wire using one of those pinch connectors or is there something else I can do?

You can carefully strip it and then solder it. As long as you have a good solid connection it doesnt matter how its held.

If you can find them gm makes a crimp connector that you crimp then heat and it will shrink and fill the connection with a heat activated sealer.

I used a "pinch connector" and it's been working fine. I wrapped a little electrical tape around the entire connector once I clamped it down good. The strip and solder is a good idea if you're crafty like that, which me = not crafty like that.

If you have a Wal-Mart around you (which most people do) they happen to carry the Posi-Lock connectors.

Honestly, these are about the easiest thing ever and make a very good, secure connection that is easy to undo if you want to for some reason.

I wouldnt cut the wire.

Instead take a razor and carefully remove the insulation from around the wire and solder the new wire onto it. The tack wire remains uncut.
