Default CD changer does't work. Help!

I took my stock 12 disk cd changer out a couple months back and it worked fine. I went and sprayed sound deading all in the back when i took it out. Now I tried pluging it back in today and I get nothing. Its like it has no power. I checked my fuses and the connectors even tried cleaning the connectors thinking some deadener spray got on them, still nothing. Anyone have any ideas, I don't need it but I would like to get the cd's that I left in it.

Thanks
Jon

Strange. Sounds like some kind of undocumented anti-theft feature. Or just a bad coincidence when you took it out. The car wasn't on when you tried re-installing it was it?

If you don't need it, you can always take the cover off to retrieve your CD's.

I plugged it in and then turned the car on. I don't even remember what cd's are in there I just know there in there. I was hoping to sell the changer for some $ but I guess its just a big paper weight now. I just don't get why it does't work now WTF.

Is it possible that you unplugged the cable at the head unit when you were changing things?

Mine flakes out every time I disconnect the battery. Try
just opening it, remove & reinsert the CD cartridge, and
listen for it to start chuckling to itself. Then it should be
good again.

Unless you fvcked something up.

Sorry maybe I was clear with the first post the cd changer is not hooked up to the head unit. I have a aftermarket H/U, but it still had power going to it. You could still take the cartridge in and out and you would here it shuffle throught the cd's when ever you put the cartridge in. No it does absolutly nothing. Its like it has no power going to it at all now or something inside decided to die.

Unplug the connector at the changer and check that you have 12V across the orange and black wires (orange = 12V+, black = ground). If not, check the RADIO ACCY fuse (#4) in the dash fuse panel. This is the fuse used for the changer and Monsoon amp.

Ok it seems that I have a bad ground. I have 0 volts between the orange and black wires but when I ground it to something else I have 12.2 volts. Anyone know where the ground wire is attached? I've got alot of sound deading in the back so I would like to have an idea before I start tearing stuff up looking for it.

My bad...I should have noticed that the ground wire goes through the harness to the head unit. Without the harness plugged into the head unit you will have power but no ground. You can get the black wire at the head unit end of the harness and just jumper it to ground behind the dash.

I don't know about that - all I know is that the schematic shows the power (orange wire) coming from the RADIO ACCY fuse and the ground (black wire) going back to the head unit. Considering that you have power but no ground it seems reasonable to assume you need to ground the black wire at the head unit end of the harness (or tap into the black wire someplace closer to the changer and provide a ground that way).

I think I'm just going to use a piece of wire and ground it that way just to check and hopefully get my cd's out. I'll be back hopefully with good news.

Alright just grounded it and all works well. Came on and popped the cartridge out. I still don't understand why the ground worked before without the factory h/u but it does't now. Anyways thats for the WhiteBird00 its much appreciated.
