Try a different battery. I had the same problem, and I just switched out mine with a buddy's and now everything works fine. Try that, and then let us know.

If you put the wrong key into the ignition sometimes that will cause it to happen.

I thought that it was my key as well. It wasn't. Try your battery. I am pretty sure that is your problem, just like mine.

Any time the security light is on it means the passkey anti-theft system isn't reading the right resistance value from the key. GM passkey systems are notorious for "forgeting" their values. Try another key if you have one then try with this one again, sometimes that will solve it. Other than that the only way I know of to fix it is at the stealership.

Your car didnt come with two keys?

There is a few ways that you can go about this. I took my key to the stealership and got my VATS number. From there I ordered the correct key off the internet (stealership wanted $99 for a key) and then had the key cut locally.

I understand you may not have the time for this so you may have to by the key from the dealership. In that case youll need drivers license, registration, and insurance.

On eBay (dont know if I can say that because they are not a sponsor) they should have the keys if you search for "pontiac vats key" or "chevy vats key" (although I believe all of them just had a GM logo). You just have to know the resistance value.

If I am breaking a rule by posting this please let me know and I will remove it right away.

Sometimes it's just that the key contacts or the contacts in the ignition switch are dirty (causing an increase in resistance). Try cleaning the contacts on the key with a pencil eraser and then some rubbing alcohol and spray some contact cleaner in the ignition switch. It's worth trying before spending money on a new key.

You can put in a VATS bypass kit for a lot less than that.
