Need to get new speakers, suggestions?
My monsoon already went a while ago, and I have a pioneer in its place, I will get the number of it later just for reference.
I was just wondering what speakers are popular for a reasonable price? I won't be putting a sub in this car either so they need to have good low range. And I'm not looking for a top dollar system; just something that will sound good on a budget. The car is a 2000 SS btw.
Thanks.
The Alpines and infinities mentioned in so many threads are two of your best options for replacement drivers. They will sound better than stock if you hook them up correctly, and you can get a four pack of either for well under $200.
1.) You need to be sure you get a speaker that allows you to run factory woofer wires only to the woofers, and the factory tweeter wires only to the tweeter before the crossover/cap. Not all coaxials support this, but if there is an MB Quart that does, it would be a good choice, no doubt. This is the MAIN reason the Alpines and Infinities are such a popular choice/recommendation. We know they allow for this wiring, are relatively inexpensive, and are widely available.
It'd actually be a good idea to start a sticky listing speakers known to support this wiring setup...
2.) The bottom line of MB Quart (discus) is not a very good speaker. They are better than most best-buy level stuff, but are not the premium level that MB Quart used to be in all products. If you decide to go with MB's make sure you step up to at least thier reference line. Through internet vendors there isn't much of a cost differential between the two lines, so here knowledge is your friend.
I will say it again, the monsoon amp is much stronger than any head unit amp (barring the new digital Panasonics which are like 30rms/50 peak, perhaps). Do not leave it out thinking your premium head unit will be stronger and eliminate the bi-amp arrangement. It won't sound as good.
Peace.
