correct me if I am wrong but a 6.5 is a 6-1/2. that is the standard for speakers anywhere. You can get 4", 5.25 (5-1/4), and 6.5 (6-1/2). Those speakers are everywhere.
The 6.75 or 6-3/4 is the speaker that GM decided to put in the Fbody. That is the strange size, not the 6.5. You may have trouble finding the 6.75 but never the 6.5
And to answer your original question I think...Yes, the 6.5 (6-1/2) will fit in the Fbody fine.
hope that helps.

im just browsing for now and from what i read you cant put the full range speakers in where the stock subwoofer location is (rear seat panel) so i wanted to know which ones i had to buy as a component set. 6.5 "s" or 6.75. in the faq it says the stock size is 6.5 "s" so i was wondering if 6.75 will fit because i cant find 6.5 "s" anymore.

The 6.5s speakers were strictly a Crutchfield designation. The factory locations on f-bodies had a mounting for a 6.5" inch speaker, but the cutouts were slightly oversized. Any 6.5" or 6.75" will fit in the rear sail panel. 6.75 fit better, with less chance of mounting rattle.
