Question New 12 CD Changer Installation

Hello folks.....

I have an '02 Camaro SS with a stock Monsoon (single CD) receiver. I'm thinkin' of buying a new GM 12371528 12 CD changer and install it for the first time. Can I just buy one from Chevrolet and install it and will it work with this receiver or do I have to buy another receiver and install it too? Are there special codes that have to be set that take special tools or will it just plug and play? Also, does the 12371528 come with all the brackets, bolts, and connectors needed to install the unit or is there another "kit" that needs to be purchased to complete the installation correctly?

Thanks a bunch!

Regards,
Al

I will sell you my disc changer if you can be patient and want to wait a couple weeks. I just ordered a new head unit and from what I understand, there are no adapter cables to use an after market head unit with the stock CD changer.

I will definitely sell you mine cheaper than it would be from GM.

A very kind offer. I have no problem with time. I first need to know if I can install it myself and have everything work including steering wheel controls. I don't want to have to take this to the dealer if I don't have to. What year is yours and did it come with the Monsoon head?

PM me with a price, condition, and what will be included.

Installation is a simple matter of mounting the changer and then plugging in the harness that is already installed in your car. All of the controls (including the steering wheel controls) will work without any additional modification.

Thanks. That's good news.

Did all these cars come with the RPO WX9 set up from the factory? I don't have that code on my door.

I have the monsoon factory CD disc head unit with changer controls. I believe the changer was installed by the dealership when it was purchased new. As I know the car was special ordered without the CD changer, but I do have paper work and receipts from the original owner concerning the CD changer, just not sure of the date.

The stock head unit has furthermore been replaced in 04, I believe, under warranty (extended).

The condition would be excellent. I have really rarely used the changer.

I just ordered my new stereo equipment this week, so it should not be anymore than a couple weeks before everything is out of the car. And I would be happy to give you any and all wiring you require or request. I will pm you about the price.

The date and part number are on the back of the unit. What are they? Thanks and send PM when you have time.

What is WX9 and where did you hear about it? I've searched the RPO listings and can't find any WX9 as far back as 1997. There was a WX7 wiring package but I don't think it applied to f-bodies.

The changer was purchased from Radios and More in Flower Mound, Texas on 2/19/99. The item number on the receipt says 12495743 Delco 12-Disc CD Changer & Installation Kit (Horizontal Mount Only). Originally purchased for 360.00, and I do have the original Manual which comes with the changer.

I can get the info off the unit as well, but I thought this might be enough info until I get the changer removed.

No need for that. You've given plenty of info.

Thanks,

I believe that the WX9 is the "prep" wiring for an external CD changer.

Nope, my car has no WX9 code and did not have a factory changer but does have the wiring for the changer. All 98-02 F-bodies with Monsoon systems came pre-wired for the changer as standard equipment (not an option code).

Sounds good. Thanks for the info!

Does the changer disable the "single" player in the head or when installed, are there now 13 CD's that can be used and does the head CD work in with the "random" function?

The changer will work with any 00-02 monsoon cd receiver. It will not work on 98 monsoon cd receivers, but on some later year 99 monsoons. So you will have all functionality in both the changer and the receiver.

you will have a 13 disc player.

but as I remember they are separate functions and the H/U CD player could not be used with the random disc feature

Sort of...you will have 13 available CDs but they will still be separate devices (i.e. you have a single CD player and a 12 disc changer as separate audio sources). You switch between the two using the CD/AUX button (CD/Play on Firebirds). Press once to select the head unit single CD. Press again to switch to the changer. So no, the single CD won't be included in the random function nor will it play sequentially with the discs in the changer.

CamaroSS and I have already worked out an arrangement. No need to go stepping on anyones toes. If you are looking to sell your CD changer place it in the for sale section.

I'm in the middle of one these 12cd changer swaps myself. Been reading about the 12cd changer not working with some stock CD players.

I have installed the 12cd changer. The unit is powerd up. THe door opens and the internal red light comes on.

BUt I don't think the head unit is comuitcating with the 12cd changer. I can't get CD's to play from the changer.

My quesgtion is, can the head units that will work with the 12cd changer be identified by the "00000" logo next to the PONTIAC logo on the display????

I know my current head unit does not have this logo.

Hehhe... after looking... I think that is the Monsoon logo. If so... I guess not.
