Default Need help

I'm currently working on finishing up my system with a sub. I purchased a Dual voice coil Alpine Type-R 10inch and the amp is a MTX 6500D. I finished all the wires today and tested to see if everything works and it does, except that the sub doesn't even hit hard at all.

I wired it at 2ohms, then 4ohms, then bridged it at 4ohms and it keeps hitting the same. I adjusted the gain ect for each time I changed the wire cordination. Same goes for the head unit bass setting.

So why doesn't it hit at all? I've installed 3 systems in the past and never had this problem. And it should hit since the MTX amp is 250RMS at the least, and the sub wants 20 - 150 Watts RMS and maxes out at a 1,000 watts.

Ok, well I did a few tests and here's what I came up with.

Took out my sub and attached my friends sub that we know works from his system. Wire it up and it doesn't work , so we know my sub is not causing this.

Then I take out my amp and replace it with his 800 kenwood comp amp and attach it to my sub. This way I can see if my amp was bad. Well after wiring it back up and testing it... it came out to be the same exact problem.

So either their is something wrong with the wiring (All grounds are tight, battery cable's are tight ect...) or their is something up with my new alpine unit that is isn't sending the full signal to the amp...?

If it has a sub control, make sure you have the sub option swithed on. Some do it automatically, but some don't . And you may have to turn the sub level on the deck almost all the way up to get any output, that's how it is on my GF's Alpine even though she has 3 MTX 10's and a decent sized amp.

Its a Alpine 7894. The sub is turned on and I have it turned up to +12 and it barely hits. I've tried many things and as of right now the only thing that seems like it might be messed up is the RCA's.

the same converter piece that sends the signal to the mid/highs controls the sub output, so all of the siganls would be bad not just the sub. The only thing that I can think of is the radio settings. Try going over the crossover settings and the time correction settings. that's the best I can do for ya, when you do figure it out, please come back and let us know. I'm curious.

Does the sounds fade in and out, as in bump for a second then get weak? I'm all about /////ALPINE obviously, but I have had a head sub out die on me. Try pluging your sub RCAs into the front or rear speaker out from the head unit, and see if it hits... I dont remember the model number of the head that the sub outs died on, but try this, hope it helps.

richieg - I'll let you know as soon as I would get this thing working. I messed with all the adjustments and it doesn't seem to help much .

ALPINE - I tried putting it though diff RCAs and had the same problem (you only feel the sub slightly move). And it doesn't fade in and out. I'm gonna try to test my friends HU on it later today to see if my HU outputs are messed up.

I tried the CD player tick where you plug in a CD player for RCA's instead of the HU and the same **** happened . I'm really starting to get pissed (which isn't easy) with this system. I tested everything and nothing helps it .

Okay, assuming there is not a screw drilled through the signal wire. I've narrowed it down to one of these. The constant power fuse is blown the radio is surviving off the the switched power but not delivering full performance due to lack of power. Or, I just got done looking at the specs for that radio on the website. they have a feature in that radio that I've never seen before in alpine and i've been using them since 93. In the setup menu, (like where you would go to turn the sub on/off, or change the beep on/off etc,) There is actually an option to turn the internal amplifier off to route more power to the preout converter. Maybe you already knew this, but it's news to me. Or lastly, the output convertor is shot "warranty"

Once again, hope any of that helps, good luck

Yea I knew about that internal amp on-off feature (kinda nice ). I tured it off so I can just hear the sub and the same thing .

I'm gonna try yet another one of my friend's amp's today (Its a new Kenwood), so I'll be able to test to make sure its not the amp, even though I tested this area before.
