Monsoon Help I tried to search but it looks like the search function isnt working. if this is a repost i'm sorry. Right now my monsoon system is in terrible condition. i have about 4 working speakers. everything else, including the head unit is in really bad shape. i have been quoted about $200 just for the rewire of the monsoon. does anybody have a wiring diagram that i might use to rewire the car myself? the biggest problem with this whole deal is that nobody will just run the wires and let me install the speakers and head unit so i'm going to be charged about $500 in labor. any help or suggestions would be great.

You don't need to rewire unless you plan to replace the Monsoon amp with a more powerful one. The head unit can be replaced with an aftermarket one using just a simple mounting kit, harness adapter, and antenna adapter. The speakers can be replaced with any number of different aftermarket speakers depending on what you're looking for and how much you have to spend. i did read the FAQ but i still am unsure. i plan to add a sub or two with a seperate amp. is there a more in-depth write up on replacing the speakers with after market ones? is it a straight foreward install with little modding? any sources for parts like the harness adapter? thanks for the help.
go to walmart. the harness is 6 bucks with the antenna adapter, usually. Get a Metra mount. from checker, autozone, etc. runs 18 bucks or so. the reason i say Metra, is cause it's a flush mount v.s. getting the walmart "Shoche",sp, one that sticks out.
The wiring harness is plug and play, basically. you match the colors from the radio to the harness, and plug it into the factory wiring. there' will be an extra plug. that's for the cd changer. don't worry about it.
if you don't want to do a huge system, then you can still use the stock wiring with the aftermarked speakers. basically, remove the old speaker, put butt connectors on the wire ends, and hook them up to the new speakers. the front speakers will require slight modification to adapt to the monsoon amp. not a huge deal.
most people will tell you to keep "stock" 6.5 sail panel speakers. i.e. buy new ones if the current one's are busted. if you want to do something different, you can try aftermarket 6.5's or as I did, 8"s. but then you run into Ohms etc....
the back speakers are 4" full range speakers. basically, the same as the front, only no modification is needed to the speaker itself. hope this helps a little.

thank you very much. that is exactly what i was looking for. what sort of modding are we talking with the front speakers? is there any aftermarket that is prefered to use for this application (ie keeping the 2 ohm rating)?

i wouldn't rewire just yet though. but basically, with the front 6.5's you get a two way speaker. then you have to unwire the tweeter from the speaker, and wire it to the stock wiring, and wire the mid to the stock wiring. there's four wires going to the front two speakers. one for the mid one for the high. what i did, was solder speaker wire to the tweeter wire and put butt connectors on the ends, and butt connectors on the end of the factory wire, and pluged then together. and pluged the mids wire to the speaker.

EDIT: i just joined up over there. thanks for the help. looks like a pretty compicated rewire. i think i'll stick to this for now.
