Default Monsoon Speaker Problems

Both me and my girlfriend have camaros. Both have the monsoon sounds system, however; it seems like we are having problems with the two front door speakers. She already has replaced her passenger side once, and now her driver side is blown. Now mine on the passenger side is blown. The factory speakers are actually really expensive, and i was thinking about going with something different. Anyone have a nice speaker that will fit (mainly the depth) with no modification, also; they will have to be 2ohms.

This has been discussed to death. The search function is your friend. Also, have a look at the sticky FAQ posts at the top of the forum. (and the speakers don't have to be 2-ohm if you get good, efficient aftermarket speakers)

Ok, im not asking you to lecture me, about how to use this forum. I was just asking if anyone knows any good 2ohm speakers that will fit in the front door of an 02 camaro with no modification to the car. I am mainly concerned with the depth of the speaker in the door panel. However, you are right about how they do not have to be 2ohm. But i really do not want to rewire all the speakers for 4ohms. If i got a 4 ohm speakers up front i will have to run both speakers to a single channel, and that will get rid of the entire stereo effect up front. I really do not want to do that.

No, if you bothered to read up on this subject in the hundreds of other posts or the FAQ you would find that you can replace the 2-ohm factory speakers with 4-ohm and not do any rewiring. All speakers in the Camaro are run off the amp and it is quite capable of handling the 4-ohm load. And, since the factory speakers are so inefficient, a good, efficient, 4-ohm aftermarket speaker won't even have a problem with reduced volume as you would normally expect from the increased impedance.

So, don't be lazy - do some research rather than waiting for those of us who've been here a while to repeat ourselves for the umpteenth time.

Do you know what your talking about? Do you know what impedance means? The reason why people are saying you can stick 4ohm speakers in a camaro is because, they basically take apart a 2 way 4 ohm speaker and turn it into 2 seperate 1 way 2ohm speakers (and yes that is what the guy did when he wrote that sticky, and he did it fairly right). If you go ahead and put a 2 way 4ohm speaker or a 2 way 2ohm speaker in, it is going to be putting out crap. The reason it is going to be putting out crap is because of the frequency the factory amp and head unit are set at. The monsoon sound system is actually a good system because of how the divided up certain frequencies and seperated the channels into a very narrow range frequency setting. However, it is a pain because most aftermarket speakers are not made this way. They make a 2 way, 3 way, and 4 way speakers that run off a wide range frequency. Yes the factory speakers are made out of cheap materials, and thats why I want to upgrade. However, the main problems with people upgrading their speakers is that they have no sense of electrical background what so ever. Most of these guys, included sales men and installers, have been upgrading factory speakers out of high school (no background expierence with higher education). The problem with that is they only understand how to do it, and they have no idea what is actually going on. Sure they can tell you how many watts this speaker can handle and blah blah blah, but there is a lot more going on. Just because you have been doing this ten+ years (or however long you have been doing this), does not mean you know what your talking about, and by your previous post; you proved to me that you really dont know what your talking about. Now, im not asking what type of speaker to put in, I already know what type, I really want to know is what the mounting depth is in the door panel. I could go ahead and take my panel off and measure, but that is a lot of work. So i thought i could use this forum to get some good information.

OK newbie, let me straighten you out on a couple of things before I have to hand your *** to you.

First, I have a degree in electronics - I'm not just some big box store installer.

Second, you can run 4-ohm speakers in the doors with or without splitting the drivers and they will sound fine (better than stock). People get way too hung up on speaker impedance when there are many other factors that affect performance. Many people here have installed 4-ohm speakers and been very pleased with the results. The biggest problem with increased impedance is the reduction in volume it causes compared to the original speakers (it has absolutely nothing to do with sound quality). But, as I said, you can put sensitive (efficient) 4-ohm speakers in and the volume reduction is minimal.

Third, the Monsoon system amp sends full range signal to the door speakers and the hatch speakers. Only the sail panel subs are filtered.

Now, smarten up, do your own research, and be civil or I'll have to put you on time out before you reach 20 posts.
