The Monsoon head unit is just an ordinary Delco radio - it's the amp and speakers that make it a Monsoon system. So yes, you can hook up a different amp with speaker-level inputs. Just bear in mind that the factory speakers are not great quality and several are 2-ohm rather than the more common 4-ohm so your amp will have to be 2-ohm stable.
You're not going to gain much by replacing the OEM amp - the amp is probably the best part of the whole Monsoon system. The head unit produces quite a bit of distortion and the speakers are prone to blowing.

see my cars a 97 Camaro and came with the normal deck non monsoon but i have a monsoon amp monsoon cd player and just traded for the 12 changer
i already have aftermarket speakers so thats why i don't wanna use the monsoon amp but i like how stock stuff looks if it works good b'c its hard to make aftermarket stuff look right "Deck wise" and work with the wheel controls installed them also on my 97
another ? i had was willl the stock Changer work with a CD deck

Now, if you have the original 97 single CD head unit then you won't be able to use the CD changer. In 97, only cassette head units came with changer controls. It wasn't until late in the 99 model year that the CD head units got the capability to control a changer.
