There is no RCA outputs on the stock unit.
You need to get is a High Level RCA converter. This little device will tie in to you stock speaker outputs and allow you to plug in an run RCAs to run to a new external amp.

If your gonna install a single sub, might as well opt for an 10"

I second the 10 in. sub. It's a very versatile size and will do tight clean bass. Just make sure you use reputable brands so that you do it right the first time. There's nothing more frustrating than cheaping out and then having to spend the money all over again. You can run a signal off your rear speakers to the high to low level converter and then to the amp. Everything else is run the same way. Do a stealth box, sub and amp. Very basic and will sound way better than stock. Good luck!!

Just depends on how much bass you want. 10 is what I would do also, but a single 8 does enough for some people.

There are simple "plug and play" types of PAC line level converters that will plug right in inline to your radio harness and give you the RCA outputs you need.

However it is also possible to simply tap off the rear speaker wires for use with an amp that has high level inputs - or to use a conventional line level converter again off of the rear speakers.

The easiest basic solution is to use an amp with high level inputs and current sensing turn-on. With that all you need to do is tap off the rear speakers, and run you power and ground. Significantly cheaper than buying a pac unit, running RCA's, and a remote turn-on wire.

For an 8" you could fairly easily build a little box to fit in the driver's side cubby hole. They are pre-made for 10" subs and referred to as "stealth boxes".

I have the 10 speaker system factory in mine and I get PLENTY of bass from all of that. However I don't listen to cRap to really require a sub

I would've thought the factory Monsoon setup would sound much like mine.

My thoguths, if you need a sub over the factory setup, you like bass, so might as well go big.

I know this is thread jacking but seems like it'd be a good thread to post a quick question what size are the speakers in the back where the hatch is not the tweeters but the ones next to them?

Firebirds have 4" mids and .75" tweeters in the hatch area. Camaros have only 4" full-range speakers there.

If you want to be really "cost effective" you can splice into your rear speaker outs and run the 8 in parallel with the rear speakers. I wouldn't recommend it, but the person that had my car before me did that and it did work, with no fancy adaptors off the deck, but he did run it to an amp with speaker level ins.

You won't be able to control the rear gain or fade seperately, but sound will come out.
