Default Problem with headlights

Hi, My name is Bergur and I live in Iceland, I just imported a 1999 Trans Am and I am wondering how the park/headlight on this car work. When I turn the light switch one step to the right my headlights go up but they do not turn on, witch they should not do, they should stay down right? So I can drive around with the parkligths on and the fog ligths and my headlights closed. My friend also has a 1999 Trans Am and this is not a problem for him, headlights don't go up until he switches them on, so he can drive around with the parklights and fog lights on but headlight down. Any ideas?

Best regards from Iceland

does your headlight motor make a loud grinding problem when you close them? Our cars will pop the headlights up like that when the gear is stripped b/c it throws the car out of sync. They are not supposed to pop up when you turn on the parking lights. Welcome to the board btw!

Affirmative, if they go up in the park setting, the gear is worn. I've done a few sets already. You can either buy a new motor or replace the gear.

you can go to this website for reference or to even purchase the kit to fix it.

Here's the person who originally did the gear swap. He got a write up in gm high tech magazine if I'm not mistaken.

No, if you turn the switch to the middle position the parking lights will go on but the headlights shouldn't go up. However, if you turn the headlights on and then turn the switch to the middle they will stay up but not stay on.

Sweet, so thats how I fix that I knew my gear was striped, my right motor grinds when shutting. My 91 never did, and I was a bit confused. Thanks

Well I just found out this morning that one of my gears is stripped when it started to make that noise. Could that be causing the other problems I am having? My lights do go up when i put the **** in the middle position. And now when ever I arm and disarm my alarm the lights now "blink" even if they weren't up before I turned off the car.
Ahhhh it is sooo embarassing. help
