Default Rear Fill? What do you think?

My original plans were to stick with just 2 10" subs in the hatch and 2 components in the front. But now I'm wondering if I should get something for the sail panel speakers to fill in the sound behind me. I was messing with the stock monsoon system balance/fade and it really sounded like something was missing when I had only the front stage set... granted the speakers arent the best. But what do you all think? Will I even notice?

I've got a set of Diamond Audio D661a's and an Alpine MRV-F345 (75x4) amp to power them. Can I even put a pair of coaxils or something in the back on that amp and power the fronts?

Decisions decisions.

I have never been a fan of rear fill in these cars. With 2 subs out back, you might not even hear them anyway. I have a similar system as you, front componets and 2 subs. I thought about adding kickpanels and another set on componets up front.

Oh really? So the thought of rear fill with your setup is pretty much non existent. lol I guess if the front speakers are good enough, it shouldnt be an issue? I just dont want it to feel empty, or like theres something missing. I like that immersed in the sounds feeling.

With my HU, I am using time alignment, parametric eq'ing and crossover settings and I don't feel like anything is missing. Maybe at low volumes there could be a hole since the bass is not really hitting. If you wanted to to be immersed, you might fade to the sail panel speakers with high volumes so they get drowned out.

If you're referring to the small set in the hatch then no, they aren't worth it, I actually disconnected mine. I have 2 10" subs in the back with alpine 2-ways up front and mids in the back seat and it sounds great

I see. Well, I normally listen to the music mid level to high. Over the cutouts its tough to hear it low anyway.

No I was referring to the sail panel speakers, right near where the rear seats are. I keep hearing theyre pointless, and yet I keep seeing some setups that have them. lol Thats why I made this thread... I'm getting confused.

rear fill is a subjective thing. its kinda like the ford vs chevy debate, different strokes for different folks.

from the way you mention liking to be immersed in sound you would probably like having some speakers in the sail panels. i've known a couple people who didnt use speakers in the rear and werent satisfied with the sound until they did.

if you want to get all audiophillic, (is that a word?) you could use time delay and tweak them so they dont completely trash your front soundstage and imaging. then again, alot of people just want thier stereo to jam...

and no, i dont have any rear fill...

I hear alot of audiophiles telling me that rear speakers aren't worth it. 1. because sound isn't naturally projected from all around you and 2. the air pressure coming off the subs can push on the cones of your rear speakers and distort the sound

me personally, I have fronts, mids and then subs and I love my sound

Well... I guess I'll just go without off the bat, and if it feels like somethings missing I'll get some mids. Would I be able to add some mids to my set up down the road with that amp and still power my fronts properly?

On a side note: I do recall being in a pickup truck that obviously was only front stage, and I didnt even think about it. It just sounded good. With the subs behind me it should sound hollow at all. So fronts may be just fine for me.

Thanks again everyone.

yea you got a 4ch amp so if you wanted you could easily run rears.

good idea to go with just the fronts for now, that was my plan and i never ended up getting the rears, although i did wire for them to make it really easy if i decide to drop some in someday.

i ended up mounting my sattelite reciever in the pass rear sail:

someday when i'm motivated the other sail will get the alarm brain.
