there is no aux input, only a cd changer port that can be used as aux input with the right adapters.

You need a PIE GM9-AUX to convert the CD-Changer port on the back of the headunit into an RCA AUX-IN.

has anybody actually tried one of these units in their own car? How does it switch from aux input back to regular radio? I'm just confused because I was just told by our local car audio place that the aux input boxes only work on factory stereos that have a button for aux or cd changer. Since mine was a regular single CD in-dash unit, it did not support the CD-changer (aux) input. Can someone please clarify for me what will work with my stock stereo?

I want to add an aux input to my stock monsoon head unit. What is the best way to do this?

THANKS!!

I have the GM9-AUX in my 2001 Formula to connect XM Radio.

You just need a headunit that can control the factory CD Changer:
* 1998-2002 Cassette headunits
* 2000-2002 CD Headunits
(Some mid-late 1999 CD headunits too)

Since you (Johns98TA) have a 1998 CD heaunit, it can't control the factory CD Changer and the GM9-AUX won't work with it either.

OK one more quick question:

Can I replace my 1998 monsoon headunit with a 2001-2002 trans am factory head unit without any other mods?

I have been reading up on the posts concerning the aux input using the PIE 9pin adaptor. Basically I have discerned that you can only use the Aux device or CD changer. I have a 1999 Monsoon head unit, and I have the 12 disc changer plugged into the stock head unit (works fine, CD Play button switches b/w single CD and changer). If I unplug the the cd changer and plug in the aux adaptor could that work?

Sorry for bringing this back from the dead.

Yes, you can plug in the GM9-AUX in place of the CD changer. The adapter has a pass-thru port that would allow you to plug in both the adapter and the changer but only 01-02 models supported having two devices connected. On your 99 you would have the auxiliary and the changer playing at the same time. And that sounds awful - believe me, I tried it. At least you don't have to worry about compatibility - you already have a changer so you know the adapter will work.
