Default headlights go dim then back to norm

ever since i bought my car I have noticed that the low beam head lights will go dim for half a sec then back to full strength.

could this be a battery issue like not enough juice? or did the guy I buy it from do something screwy with the wiring?

Is this a random occurance? Or when you first start the car? When engine idles? Or when you accelerate?

Need more details to diagnose.

Watch your voltmeter, and if its dropping under 13 then charging over 13, I'd say it was your alternator going. I just went through two of them, and a word of advice if it is your alternator, Dont buy the duratrash **** from autozone, and dont forget to disconnect the battery before you go wrenching on it!!

Mine does it too. I had flickering lights with the stock one so I swapped in an Autozone one. Now whenever I accelerate, the lights go dim and the gauge drops down. Probably gonna go get one from the dealer.

No it's not a random occurance it has pretty much always done this

I bought the car 6/11/05 with 32,900k on it

Its hard to remember, plus I only notice this at night obviously but I do believe the voltmeter dips a tiny amount and I can here a noise when the light dies down

I really hope that it's not the altenator because I recently brought my car in for a tune up and that ran about $500 after they found that the rear diff had a leak and replaced the diff pinion seal which was about 200 extra than I thought. Then I drove back to school after this was done and my mastercylinder went out another 400 ( always thought it was due to the fact when I had the car tuned up they drained and replaced the brake fluid). Got new tires for christmas 350 there.

So if I need a new altenator is this an expensive piece?

Sounds like a relay kicking in. Probably nothing to worry about.

Same here. Now around 18000 miles, happens atleast 1 time at night. Just a half a sec. No time to read a gauge.

Yep.
Mine has done it since day 1 also. I have 150,000 miles on her now. I'd say it's not an issue.

Mine does it every once in awhile as well. To me it seems like either a relay or the Electric fans clicking on maybe?
