budget speakers needed
If Monsoon, then you can't go wrong with these for your doors:

The Alpines are the least expensive of the aftermarket speakers known to work with the Monsoon. Bear in mind that the stock door speakers have seperate wires for the woofer and tweeter.
Here's the details on how to properly install them:

As for the back seat (or sail panel speakers), you could go with the Alpines again. However, since these speakers only receive midbass and lower frequencies you may want to disconnect the tweeter.

If the answer to both of these is yes, then you have the Monsoon "Premium" stereo system.

If your the original owner, than that means you most likely do have the Monsoon system. If not, I'd still check for the amplifier.
If you had an aftermarket head unit and amplifier, I'd agree that the R's are probably better speakers. But they are not as sensitive (and I'm not sure if they are as easy to mod) as the S-series. They are also more expensive.
I have had SPS-170A's in my doors for almost 2 years now. Still like them.
FYI: SPS-17C2 is just the 2006 model number for the same basic speaker. Now that it's 2007, I wonder if Alpine will change them again. lol
