Default Help Me Decide - Alpine H.U

I did a search already and I know this has probably been brought up but help me out.

Ok, pretty much im looking between the CDA-9885, the CDA-9856, and the CDA-9883. Im basically trying to decide which one is going to best suit me, Im looking for best overall buy. I want high SQ and as best control (EQ) as possible over settings for the speakers. Does anyone have any experince with any of these? Is it worth paying another 100-150 for the higher models? I have an Ipod that i would most likely use if its easy to adapt and control from the H.U. I also want to keep the steering wheel controls if possible. Please any help would be appreciated.

I have a 9855 and I love it. I reccommend going with the 9885 because of the voltage is double than the 9856 for one, that helps out amps if you get some. . . your HU is a very imporant part of that. However whats ur budget? For the best SQ people loved going with Eclipse because of the control of sound aswell.

I want to spend between 200-400 no more then 4 tho. I keep trying to read every review I can and a lot of people say the new alpines are crap when it comes to adjusting the sound, now im not even sure if I want to get one. Im very picky when it comes to this. It seems a lot of the reviews on crutchfield are for first timers, which in most cases any h.u you buy for the first time blows away what you had before. The pioneer premiers look nice too but i dont know. I basically want the best h.u unit i can get for that rage of money but everyone has different opinions on whats best

As of right now i have all alpine type r speakers and a jl 300/4 to run them

They are not crap, they are just not what ///lLPINE used to make. These guys have been huge in hte industry for 30 some years, so people are always gonna say "they're not as good as they used to be" but honestly, I love tehm. Next weekend I am going to pick up a 9857 from work and hopefully install it that weekend. I also have the type r components too, so me and you might be in the same boat. But to sum it up, I'd say that pioneer and Alpine are always gonna be on top, no matter what people find to gripe about.

Alpine Headunits are still good HU's eventhough they do not have the same features they once did. Alpine opted for the full speed Ipod Adpater over SQ functions like Bass Engine Pro and 6 Channel Time Correction. The 9856 and 9857 are decent Headunits and do offer some nice features. I have had 2 Alpine HU's (CDA-D857 and CDA-9835) and they did everything I required. If I were looking for a brand new Alpine HU, the CDA-9887 or CDA-9885 would be a good choices. This HU does have 3 sets of 4 V pre-outs and BioLite Display. I have the Biolite display and it has great contrast, even in the daytime.

I can't find the 9887, did you mean the 9857? would you choose the alpines over the pioneers?

Alpines and Pioneers are pretty much the same in terms of quality. Both are good, but you can get better (Eclipse and Nakamichi for a couple of examples)
